New Traeger Grill Announcement - Traeger Event scheduled for 3/30/22

Wow. T
They still have the 850 and 1300 listed on the website. They have them marked as GEN 1.

The MEATER integration, easy clean feature, and storage cabinets are nice. Also liked how they designed it to be used in an outdoor kitchen set up. But even my IW650 is overkill for what I use it for.

Could anyone else tell from the presentation if the MEATER probes came with the new Timberline, or if they were an add-on option that might be available to us other WiFire users as well?

EDIT: Just did live chat with Traeger support and they're telling me that the MEATER probes will work with the new version of the Traeger app that was released yesterday. Anyone have one that can confirm?

I can see that. Some of the improvements they made are definitely worthwhile if they work as advertised. The drip system and the burn pot, auger and fan location. All improvements over what they had previously. The ignition and fire management should eliminate any flameouts. It is supposed to detect and relight the fire if it goes out.
It just comes at a sticker shock price point.
It comes down to what one is willing to spend. I can't knock anyone foe spending that kind of money on a grill. I am guilty of it myself. I justified it in my mind, and bit the bullet and got what made sense to me.

Matt Pittman uploaded a video of him cooking on the new xl, it seems to produce a bit more smoke at the higher temperature when he was cooking the lobster. It is still a pellet grill, so smoke flavor will be what can be achieved from pellets.
Oh, don't get me wrong...it looks like a very nice grill and I'd never say anything to people about how they spend their money. I just wouldn't spend my money on one!

Of course that's easy for me to say because if I got one the next check I wrote would be to the divorce lawyer! :D

I have played around in the new app and I don't see anywhere to add/configure any probes - Meater or otherwise.

Guess I missed the rename to GEN 1, so that at means it'll continue to get support etc. If we can use our existing WiFi grills with the Meater probes via WiFi, that would be quite interesting, still not inexpensive, but I'd consider asking the Easter Bunny or Santa for them 😁

Just watched this video and it is pretty impressive what they've created here. A few things that I really like:
1. THAT FRONT SHELF
2. pellet hopper port (still not perfect, but it's a lot better)
3. shelf design - multiple heights for the top shelves, and it seems to be easier to access the top shelf (maybe because of the lid design)
4. the lights that cover 90% of the grill
5. the new bar for tools, and that shelf he had the sauces and cleaner in
6. the auto-relight in the event the fire goes out.
7. the new grease capture system (also that a lot of the ash goes into it now)
8. THAT FRONT SHELF (I haven't made/installed one yet on my T1300)

Things that are okay, but don't excite me:
1. Induction burner. I could see myself using it once in a blue moon, but meh.
2. the storage cabinet/shelves. I'm not in a climate where I want to store anything in my grill, and the cutting board shelves would just dry out like the one for the T1300.
3. the drip pan. Not sure that it'll be that much of "a breeze" to clean, but maybe.

Things that would stop me from buying one:
1. THE PRICE
2. Did I mention the price?

I have played around in the new app and I don't see anywhere to add/configure any probes - Meater or otherwise.
The add/configure is located in the menu on the new grill. There is an accessory menu option. That's where the meater probe option is added. The more I read, the more I think they aren't adding the option to the app. The XL requires specific meater probe based on one article I read. They are using the controller as the Bluetooth bridge from the meater probe to the grill, then the grill connects to the WiFi app connection.

They have a pizza oven insert coming in the future as an accessory as well for the Timberline xl.

That makes sense. Thanks!

Recent FB messenger convo with Traeger support says no integration with the Traeger app, even with the new grill.

And now there is this.. Traeger is consistently providing conflicting information.

After some further lengthy discussions with Traeger support, it appears the new (not yet released) Meater Probes will work with all Timberline and Ironwood series grills with full Traeger app integration. According to Traeger, this will only work with the newer Meater probes that come with the new Timberline XL grill. So apparently, once we're able to buy the newer Meater probes independently, we should be able to use them with the D2 controlled grills and manage the Meater probe temps via the Traeger app (not just the old Meater app).
