Failed to download certificate files

I talked with Traeger Rep and he adviced new firmware Ver. will be out soon...Vs 02.00.01 to clear up connectivity issues.
leave grill on to get update
I havent had any issues with the Pro 780..I guess to all others hurry up and wait!!!
I still don't know how they expect people who can't connect to WiFi to get the update...

It does seem a little odd. I think this is the only piece of technology that I have that doesn't have some kind of USB port that I can connect to with my computer.

Yes I was connecting fine until the 2.0 update. After that I haven’t been able to. It’s been a few weeks now.
For what it's worth, I was stuck at just 0 signal on my grill (is that what yours is too?) and after switching off the main power switch on the back for about 30 min to 1 hour, when I turned it back on, it seems to be connecting to Wifi now. Funny thing is that it's connected when I go to 'WiFi Information' and then suddenly flips to "connection to wifi" and then connects, and then "connecting" again; as if it's in a connecting/connected loop.

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing I am. To preface I'm using an Android phone. I just recently bought my Ironwood 650. When I initially tried to set up my wirefire people were already starting to report problems. My grill will briefly connect to my wifi and attempt to download files and ultimately I get the failed to download certificate error however my grill won't remain connected to my wifi after. If I can't keep the grill connected to my wifi I'm perplexed as to how I can get this magic push fix from Traeger I keep reading about here in this forum? Additionally I've tried to following the factory reset methods outlined on this forum yet each time I factory reset the grill's version always comes back online as v2.0.0 no matter how many times I do the reset.

Most people on here have been able to get it to reset to an older version and now waiting for Treager to push the update. You could call tech support and get nowhere or you can ask that question on Instagram and wait till they start answering questions, but who knows when that will be today as not too much valuable info has come out of Treager as of yet.

I can connect with the smoker, but either it's "Failed to download certificate files(old app)" after connecting or "Network already exist, bla. bla(new app)" when trying. But if I can connect to the smoker’s Wi-Fi network, why can't my phone app just send a update to it? Why do I have to have it in idle and connected to my home Wi-Fi? Great when the smoker can't connect to the Wi-Fi.

So after trying some of the stuff ya'll said to try, I kept troubleshooting on my own. I was able to successfully re-pair the grill with my network by doing the following:
Forget the Wifi Network
Uninstall and reinstall app
When asked to login in, I instead created a new account, using a different email address.
I then set up the grill as if it were new, with WiFire setup and naming the grill again.
After that, it is connected to my app, and has the V 2.0 software downloaded.
I have yet to cook on it, but so far it seems to be working just fine.

My grill is always consistently connected to my network with a signal strength of between -60 and -70 (the closer to zero, the better the signal).

Well their Instagram stories are basically saying on Saturday there’s going to be an update to their status page on the website with a “set-up wizard” that will help all of us out. No mention yet of pushing an update to our grills :/

This is a reasonable request, but unfortunately they don't make use of the direct connect (using the Grill as an access point) to download firmware to the grills. They only use the direct connect to provision, pass your home WiFi information to the grill, and from then on, the grill is independently connected to the network, regardless of your app status.
Their latest version of the software with cloud support is supposed to improve the timeliness of alerts from the grill and it seems to be the case.

But for now, everyone who's grill is not on their home WiFi network must get that fixed before the grill can get updates from Traeger. My Timberline 850 did allow a reset back to original 1.6 firmware and I was able to get it on line and from there it updated to 2.0 and works with the latest version of the app in iOS for me.

I had an access point laying around so I installed it near my grilling area, I'm seeing -20db which is super strong WiFi. I would say that over -50 is on the weak side for signal, the grill is super low bandwidth so it should be OK, but sometimes low signal strength hinders log on and initial connections.

How did you reset your Timberline 850? Is it a Gen 1?

I have mesh WiFi. I moved one of my nodes literally on the inside of a window and my grill on the other side. I’m still getting around -60. Not sure what else I can do to boost the signal.
