So after trying some of the stuff ya'll said to try, I kept troubleshooting on my own. I was able to successfully re-pair the grill with my network by doing the following:
Forget the Wifi Network
Uninstall and reinstall app
When asked to login in, I instead created a new account, using a different email address.
I then set up the grill as if it were new, with WiFire setup and naming the grill again.
After that, it is connected to my app, and has the V 2.0 software downloaded.
I have yet to cook on it, but so far it seems to be working just fine.
This didn’t work for me, unfortunately. When it gets to the point of “checking for updates,” it checks for several seconds, then tries to reconnect to my WiFi. The grill says it’s connected, but the app gives an error saying it can’t connect.

I had an access point laying around so I installed it near my grilling area, I'm seeing -20db which is super strong WiFi. I would say that over -50 is on the weak side for signal, the grill is super low bandwidth so it should be OK, but sometimes low signal strength hinders log on and initial connections.
Here’s an interesting tidbit I’ve noticed. Anytime I try to connect the app to my grill, it fails (of course), but then I can’t connect back to my WiFi from my phone without entering the WiFi password again. It’s like it’s making my phone forget my network.

Well their Instagram stories are basically saying on Saturday there’s going to be an update to their status page on the website with a “set-up wizard” that will help all of us out. No mention yet of pushing an update to our grills :/

I want to be optimistic here, but I have a bad feeling that this "set-up-wizard" is just going to be a mash-up of FAQ's and the same steps that we've already seen people posting on this 13 page thread. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

How did you reset your Timberline 850? Is it a Gen 1?

I got mine mid May 2019, newer model with pellet sensor etc.
Reset by going to "About" screen and holding the Ignite button until the display blanked out.
It reverted to SW Ver 01.01.00
Used the app to pair it, gave it a new nickname, and away it went onto my network.
Left it in standby and within 1 hour it updated to 2.00
Still in standby, I checked the app and it now said "Connected" and "Sleeping"
It's been working great ever since.

On iPhone when I had the original update issue, the phone had "remembered" the Grills direct connect network and password and was auto connecting to the grill as the grill was stuck in AP mode and not connecting to WiFi.

I went into phone settings and selected "forget network" for the grill for a fresh start. The app handles the passwords in setup when you scan the QR code.

It's also critical that your phone is on a 2.4Ghz WiFi network when setting up the grill. If it is on a 5.8Ghz network, the app will try to pass this to the grill which will fail for sure.

Does this mean that we should be able to 'power on' the grill when it's in standby mode (screen off, power button glowing)?

NO, you can connect to the grill with the app and see that it's "sleeping", so they are communicating. But as mentioned, remote startup of an un-attended wood fired grill is just asking for some kind of unexpected event to occur.

Yes, I realize this. But this is the opposite of what is happening. My personal, home network, which my iPhone has joined 1,000 times before, is suddenly forgotten when I try to go through the app pairing process. After attempting the process, I have to re-enter the password for my personal network in order to re-join it. Also, my network is mixed 2.4 and 5 GHz. I have also tried isolating the 2.4 GHz network and pairing the app, but the results are the same.

I finally got mine to connect to my WiFi yesterday. Checked this morning and still no update.

@Lou17 I compared the new igniter to the old and they look identical and the old one used to fire right up. When I get some time I’ll switch them out and see if it works. For now I just set my temp hit ignite then use a propane torch and get the pellets fired up.

I have probably used more pellets doing tests for their IT department than I have cooking. At this point if I could just get half my money back I would just buy something else.

You don't need to swap them out. Just make sure the hot rod is sticking out into the fire pot about 1/4".

Mine has been on wifi since Monday waiting to be updated to 2.0 and no luck. I think they have more issues going on that they have not told us about. Not that they have said much to begin with.

"Not able to connect to grill"! I just deleted the Treager WiFi connection in the phone. And then all worked again... 2.0 in the Traeger an 1.4.1 in the phone... after all this work!
