I emailed traeger the other night, will document the response here for everyone else:

Hello Ian,

My name is Warren. Thank you for reaching out to Traeger for assistance.

We are very sorry we have been unable to resolve the connectivity issues you are experiencing as quickly as we would like and as you deserve. Our Digital Technology Team has been working very hard this week on a solution to resolve the issue you and other customers are experiencing in a way that makes it as effortless as possible for you.

We have been working on creating troubleshooting steps to share and are even finding ourselves that they can be difficult to follow as there are multiple app versions, phone versions, and operating systems to consider, which makes documenting easy-to-follow troubleshooting a challenge.

The good news is that our Digital Technology Team is close to completing work on an over the air update to resolve the issue without putting effort on you with complex troubleshooting steps.

We simply ask that you turn the power switch on the back of your grill to ‘ON’ and leave the grill in sleep or idle mode. This will prepare your grill to receive the update as early as next week, which should repair your connectivity and get you back to enjoying your WiFIRE experience.

In the meantime, we want you to continue to enjoy amazing food on your Traeger. Rest assured, while your connectivity may not be functioning properly at this time, your Traeger grill should still work perfectly using the manual controls. Just be sure when you complete shutdown, to leave the power switch on.

Additionally, we are creating a new page on our website where we will be posting the latest updates on this issue and will use this landing page going forward to provide our customers the latest news and updates. We’ll get this landing page posted soon at www.traegergrills.com/updates.

Thank you for your patience. Traeger something delicious!

Thanks for sharing this. Is there anything that grill owners should be doing, other than leaving their grills on and waiting for an update from Traeger? What about grill owners that are not on this forum?

I got the same email tonight. What I don’t understand is how they think the people who didn’t get the steps to reset to factory default and get reconnected to WiFi are going to get the new update. I think they should have included those steps in the email.

Android released version 1.4.1... might work. With release date 21st Jan....???

Well, no luck for me. I checked my grill just now, thinking it had been on and connected to my network since Sunday. When I pulled the cover off, I realized the grill was off. I must have accidentally hit the switch when I was putting the cover on. I downloaded the new version of the iOS app (1.4.1), forgot my network, and tried going through the connection steps again. I got to the point of giving it a nickname, and it took me back to the "connect to wifire for the best experience" page, like it always has been doing. Guess I'll just wait and see if they push the new update to me.

So the screen really doesn’t have to be on for the controller to be connected to your WiFi? You can turn it off by pressing the standby button, but leave the switch on in the back and it will still be able to get updates?

As long as it is connected to your wifi, yes.
Grill plugged in, switch on, screen off, the Traeger was connected to my network and doing stuff.

What did you have to do to get it connected to your app? Did you do a firmware reset?

I did a firmware reset about 3 days ago and left the grill on. Last night I checked it and it was finally back on 2.0 firmware. Tried to connect with the app, and was able to get through the setup finally, but it still showed "Grill Offline" in the app. This morning I installed the updated Traeger app on the App Store, repaired my grill, and now everything is working.

I'm pretty happy with their new setup, it appears that this "cloud" implementation has really improved the missed notifications. I have the new iOS app version 1.4.1 and my T850 is was sitting at rev 2.0 last night. I have had the grill in standby for a couple of days incase a newer version is sent to the grills this week.

Just now, I went outside and powered up the grill (with the app closed and not running in the background). I checked the grill firmware version, still showing 2.0.0 I then put the grill back into standby, immediately the grill sent me a notification to my phone and watch that the grill was shutdown! With the app not even running, sweet.

I then opened the app, it connected to the grill in 1-2 seconds and shows "Sleeping", so overall the WiFire connectivity and latency is much improved in my experience since they re-worked the setup.

Good to hear! I hope mine updates soon...

No luck for me yet. iOS app updated but grill firmware still stuck on 01.01.06 for over 36 hours. Called tech support last night and spoke to two people and they claim that they have no way to push new firmware to grill. I don't believe that for a second. What is even more irritating is that they act like this is no big deal. I guess they must get very good deals on their grills and don't have to pay near $3,000 Canadian for their Timberline models. The one rep tried to tell me this is new technology and we need to be patient!! Like really, not new at all. Their problem is their IT department and their customer service department.

Hopefully it will update soon!!
