Failed to download certificate files

Talked to a supervisor, she was surprised to know that the public knows about the factory reset, I also gave her the info to this forum, which she didn't know about and got on while I was on the phone with her, so hopefully it will help them.
According to her 100's of grills are being updated daily. With this update they changed to a new server/cloud.
So best bet is to do the factory reset connect it to wifi and just leave it in standby,
You can cook with it just don't turn the grill off or it will kick it to the back of the line.
She said she will reach out again tomorrow with any updates.
This was the best call I've had with them, but still no resolution.
Looks like superbowl sunday, I will be watching the grill not the game.

Well, this is interesting. I decided to isolate my 2.4 GHz network (I normally use mixed), which I have tried before with no luck. I then went through the process above, but this time, when it says to restart your phone, I deleted the Traeger app, restarted the phone, then reinstalled the app. When it got to the point of downloading the update, it sat on 1% for a long time, then finally gave me the provisioning error. However, on my grill controller, it still says “downloading updates.” I know it’s not frozen because I can back out of it to the main menu and go back into WiFi settings and it still says downloading. Hmm. Maybe I’ll leave it like this for a while and see what happens.

Going to stop by ace hardware to see if they will do anything.
Been over 2 weeks now
I was thinking of doing the same, but I wonder how much my local Ace knows about the issue, and whether they're savvy enough to offer any help. I guess at a minimum they can relay frustration back through to their Traeger sales channel. As we've seen above their CS and IT people aren't talking to each other.

Did she say it would update even without the app being paired?

I honestly dont think she really knew but it sounded like it is their best guess to make us feel like we would also have progress.
Ace hardware was useless didn't even know an update pushed through, said he'd give my phone number to their traeger rep.
Not holding my breath on that one.

This is what my grill did the very first time the update pushed through, I left it on for my whole cook, 3 hours.
I assumed it had just froze. I turned the grill off after the cook, maybe this cause a hardware issue.
Grasping at straws.

Well I went back to my grill and the display was off, which usually indicates it had restarted after an update. I woke up the display and noticed it was connected to my network. I started to get excited thinking it finally worked. I went to the “about grill” section, and it’s still on 01.01.06. :(

I worked with the Traeger team today, and they've captured some info on why my grill wasn't updating correctly. I said I'd report back, and there is great news coming. My grill is now functioning properly! :)

Traeger will need to formulate a game plan and communicate it to their CSRs the steps needed to clear this issue. It will take some time, as I believe they did need to modify data on their end concerning my grill. I would not rush out to call them just yet, until they've had a chance to figure it out on their end. I've also made them aware of this forum so they eventually should be communicating with us here. Once again, a fix is for sure in the works, and you will get your grill working again.

I figured as much! The grill still works to make the tasty food, if it takes a bit to hash out the communication then so be it. Still gonna make the tasty food in the meantime.

Great news, thanks!

So, while I'm waiting should I do the update again. Or anything specific.
They do have my grill info, from my last contact with them.
I just would really like to get is working before Sunday, but I work everyday until then.
Any suggestions @escline

They did have to change/correct something pertaining to my grill's UUID within their system, so I don't think there is any manual procedure we could follow to fix the issue ourselves. I'm hoping with the data they have now, they can identify everyone with the issue, and make the changes/corrections.

During our troubleshooting, they were also able to initiate the grill to update from 01.01.06 to 2.0.0 from their end. I'm not sure if that was part of the fix, though. If it was part of the fix, I'm afraid everyone with the issue will need to factory reset their grill, run through the first WiFire setup to get the grill on your WiFi network and visible from their end, and then leave it powered on. It was at this state that they were able to trigger the grill update from their end. After the update, I had to go through the WiFire setup again. I may have even needed to remove the grill, as it finally showed up in my app.

So I guess the short answer is that I would go through the factory reset, and go through the first WiFire setup to get the grill up onto your network. It will be from this point that they'll need do their magic.

That's exactly where mine is at right now. Guess I'll just be patient and hope it happens soon.

After 2 weeks of no help from Traeger, i've fixed my Pro 780. I also had the "grill failed to download certificate files" error after receiving the new firmware. I'm on android. Did the factory reset provided by Joe but with a twist as I couldn't get those instructions to work. I was in a loop of rename grill, then couldn't see grill in app. So here is what worked for me:
-Menu > settings > about grill, hold down ignite till traeger logo pops up.
-Check firmware version, it should have reverted to old version.
-Attempt connection with current app.
-Grill connects to WiFi, attempts to download files, and asks to name grill.
- name the grill.
-Then app goes back to home screen without keeping connection to the grill.
-Grill is however connected to WiFi just will not connect to the app.
- firmware at this point was still not updated in my grill.
- I deleted app version 1.4.0
- downloaded and installed the previous APK file for 1.3.7.2 version of the app from_here
- grill wifi settings, forget network.
- paired to grill with old version of the app., Grill now showed in the app.
- grill immediately downloaded new 2.0 firmware.
- restarted grill after firmware updated.
- ran manual app update through android app store to version 1.4.0
- restarted phone and grill.
- now everything is happy. Grill firmware is up to date as well as the app and they are paired.
I actually mentioned a few posts back if a previous version of the app might do the trick. Unfortunately, I believe Apple has made it impossible to install previous app versions without jailbreaking. It used to be possible when you could install apps through iTunes.
