Pro 575 Not Achieving Temperatures

I don’t know if my issues are somehow related. My 575 has the temp issues as noted in my previous posts so it wasn’t a surprise that my meat probe was off when I tested it yesterday. Once I calibrated the probe, I stuck it back in ice water for about 5 minutes. The temperature that the Traeger was telling me was 48 degrees. I also measured the ambient air temperature when it was in the mid 60’s. The Traeger said 81 degrees. I then placed the probe in boiling water and it was reading in the 220’s.

It kind of explains why the ribs and brisket I tried on it didn’t turn out well at all. Unfortunately, I’m kind of in a bind and can’t return it (purchased mail order through the military exchange and have thrown away the packaging) but I have to admit that it’s trying my patience. Looking back, I should’ve just went with the RecTec.

I posted above that they’re sending me out a new controller. I’ll be out of the country but will give a report once I install the new one. I’ve talked to four different Customer Service Reps and have been on hold at least a half an hour each time.

Right now, I have a Weber iGrill ambient probe to measure the grill temperatures and am using a ThermPro to measure the temperature of the meat. I’m also using the Traeger probe (not reliable) so I now have three probes coming out of the grill when I should only have one.
Just got off a call with customer service. While it took 32 mins to get through the guy at the end of the phone was great. I have been trying to smoke salmon (purchased the 575 Pro yesterday at Home Depot). Problem is that I can’t keep the temp below 200f. Even setting it at 165f it jumps and stays
above 200f (right now it shows 208 vrs 165). I’m cooking the Traeger sweet smoked salmon recipe (not supposed to go above 180). Most interesting is the rep admitted there was a ‘known glitch’ at temp settings at 180 or below overheating. He acknowledged they are working on a software upgrade (not sure when). This is frustrating. Considering taking it back for a refund.

I hope you get a reply. I initially emailed Traeger about the problems with my 575 and it's been a week and counting with no reply.
Took a week for me to get a response as well. I then replied at 7am on 5/2, no response yet.
Not sure I can take this back to HD, bought it late Feb (before the official release). I've put up with the temp issue because once I knew what was going on, for most of my cooks I can simply compensate with a higher set point. It is at least consistently off and I've been pretty happy with the results when I have the right temp.
I don't do steaks and burgers as much as chicken, but now realizing its incapable (at this point) of actually grilling at 450 for those few times I need it, its very disappointing. I hope they figure out a hardware/software solution to this.

Good thing that I found this forum, I was just about to make deal here in Finland to buy 575, but now I'll put that in hold. My friend just bought Timberline 1300 and have been satisfied with that. I was planning to have small pellet grill siding with my big kamado smoker. Maybe Ironwood then, but the price bumps quite a lot. Maybe wait and see if they sort out 575 temp problems.

I just purchased a Pro 575 in the UK. I had a problem trying to cook a rack of ribs using the 321 method They came out undercooked and were not even particularly hot. So I did some temperature tests. When set at 225 the grill runs at 180. Set at 350;it runs at 280. Set at 450 it runs at 350! No wonder my ribs didn’t turn out well. My dealer is looking into this for me and so we will see what happens. No steak searing will be possible until this is fixed!

The same problem here Chris, I'm also in the UK out of interest who was your supplier?

Workaround is to double foil the rtd probe with the tip end opened. It does help

In this price range, things should just work like charm, not fooling around with foil workarounds, IMHO. Strange, that a big manufacturer like Traeger does not take this seriously and fix this problem ASAP. What I have read this thread, their customer service leaves room for improvement.

Just received a new D2 controller and thermocouple for my Pro 575.
The temperature seemed pretty steady at the smoke setting of 185 unlike before when I had huge temperature swings.
But I did notice a big difference in the temperature the controller was showing and the actual temperature inside the grill using an oven thermometer.
At 185 on the D2 controller, the oven thermometer was showing 150.
Cranked it up to 450 and the oven thermometer was showing 345.

I’m hoping Traeger comes up with a fix or does a recall on these grills.
Too many people are having the same issues.

Yeah, it is quite shocking.
I'm just hoping it can be fixed with a firmware update, it's strange we all have the same problem at the same temps as if the controllers are reading the resistance of the probe wrong, we all seem to get 350 internal and 450 on the D2.

I've got a Pro 575 and have a similar issue. The Pro Series is their most popular line and I'm confident that they will be coming out with a fix shortly. Based on all the information I am reading on this site, Facebook, and Reddit, Traeger is well aware of the issue and are working on a fix. Traeger also has a reputation for supporting their products so I'm ok just turning up the temp for now and waiting for the fix. I personally think its a software/firmware bug because the temperature sensors are probably similar across the whole line and other models don't seen to have this issue.

Hope so. I seriously thought about returning my 575 but kind of think along the same lines as you. They will come out with a fix. If I’m wrong I’ll never buy or recommend another traeger.

I’m with you there. They better get this fixed quickly or they risk alienating current and future customers.

And to make matters worse,it seems like every customer service rep I have talked to have absolutely no clue other than to repeat the same talking points.

Hello, purchased 575 last week, used twice, same issue, 450 is 350 at best, very disappointing, I’m hoping Traeger can resolve the issue without having to return the whole thing. Knowing this seems to be a common theme, you have to believe a company like Traeger will resolve or recall.

someone on facebook spoke with customer service and they stated they know that there is an issue and they do not have a fix for it yet. replacing parts is not going to fix the issue. they did say that it could take 1 to 3 months before they find what is causing the issue. so im going to return mine this weekend.

Thanks for the information.
I will be looking to do the same or possibly exchanging for the Ironwood 650.
