Pro 575 Not Achieving Temperatures

Is does you router run on 5GHz only? If so, I believe Traeger only supports 2.4. As far as temps, you’d have to use another probe to verify the actual pit temp. Mine is running 250-275 set to 300. It took me 90 mins to cook a pack of bacon and burgers set to 450. Verify the temp and they’ll get it fixed. Either with a new RTD, or a firmware patch.

Yep, I have a 2.4 GHz router - I confirmed it yesterday.
I don’t have another probe. I’ll have to try to borrow one or get one to actually confirm temps.

I did have problems connecting originally and I don’t know what finally worked. I restarted the app several times, the grill a few times, moved the grill around a bit. Once I finally got it connected, it’s been stable since (knock on wood).

If you can be patient and get through the issues, you’ll likely love it. However, just to set expectations, it will never be like your cheap gas grill, It will never get as hot and is always indirect heat.

Hello everybody,

I too am new to the pellet smoker world. I've been eyeing one for a long time, using my gas grill until I could save up enough to get one. I looked at a lot of brands, but when I saw the WiFire technology, I thought I had to get it. Today's my first day of use and have ran into some issues that make me want to take it back and go back to my cheap WalMart gas grill that worked.
First, My pork butt roast (just a little over 2 lbs), has been on the smoker for a little over 6 hours, 3+ of which it has been on 300 degree+ settings - and its still not done to pull apart. The current internal temp is 199 degrees. It seems like a very very long time to smoke a 2 lb piece of meat.
Second, the WiFi technology seems to be a dud. It won't connect to my home wifi. I spent 1 hour on the phone with customer service, and after we uninstalled and reinstalled the app about 5 times, all they could tell me is that I need a wifi booster, despite the fact that my grill lies 25 feet away from my router, and all my other mobile devices get wifi just fine from there.
Hello Mimatthe,

I had the same issue connecting to the WiFi, I restarted my modem and router and and I closed all my apps on my phone and restarted it, I was able to connect on the first try. About taking long, check your temp inside the grill. My temperature its way lower than what the grill think it is.

I have a ironwood 650 being delivered on Wednesday.
Is this temp problem limited to the pro 575, or all WiFire units?
Should I be concerned ? I just went through a week on the phone trying to get satisfaction on a new washer I just purchased that was faulty. I surely don’t want to go through that again.
I’d just as soon not except delivery.
Hopefully there’s no problem, I’ve heard and read nothing but positive reviews on Traeger grills, and so want to be able to cook out this summer and enjoy the smoker. . I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

I have only heard of people with the new Pro's having issues. I think you should be good. Anyway looks like traeger its actually acknowledging that they have a problem and are taking action to fix the problem.

I am having issues with the Ironwood 885. Temps lower than they should be, especially at lower cooking temps. Called support and they are clueless.

I got a grill thermometer and checked today. Sure enough, temps are off, especially at higher temps. Grill read 455, thermometer read 358. I’ll give them a call whenever I have an hour to spare over the next few days.

And WiFi is still a bust. I brought my grill into the house today so that there were no walls in between the grill and the router, reset the router, uninstalled the app, and turned off the grill and repeated this several times and still nothing.

My Pro 575 just got delivered today. After putting it together and seasoning the grill, I thought I would post some of my observations. I went to Walmart a few days ago and picked up one of those cheap oven thermometers to check the temps during the seasoning. I wanted to do this because I had read that many were having issues.

When set at 350 for 20 minutes, the cheap thermometer read approximately 290 degrees. When set at 450, it read 375. I then remembered that I had a better digital called a Therm Pro. Anyhow, I decided to check the temps with this against what the Pro 575 was telling me. The following temps are the settings on the Pro 575 followed by what the Therm Pro said:

180 - 170 (w/ big swings in temp)
190 - 172 (w/ big swings in temp)
200- 184 (things seemed to settle out a bit better here)
225 - 203
245 - 224
300 - 270
325 - 286
350 - 310
375 - 330
400 - 345
425 - 375
450 - 400

I figured that I would try this approach since I’m new to this and just bought some baby back ribs at Costco yesterday. I didn’t want to screw them up so I thought that I would try to get a good gauge on what setting on the Pro 575 would yield 225 degrees. That’s the temperature it says to cook them at. I wouldn’t really trust it right now for anything less than a setting of 200 because I was getting some pretty wild temp swings.

As far as connecting it to WiFi, I did have some issues initially but managed to get it working. I had mistakingly tried to connect on 5 GHz. That’s where my issue was. After exiting out and deleting the app, I reinstalled it and was able to connect on 2.4 GHz after a half a dozen tries. It works great as far as I can tell.

I’m not really disappointed because for right now, it is what it is. I sold my 13 year-old Big Green Egg to offset the cost of the Pro 575. I was really interested in how “hands off” the pellet grills can be. I’m confident that Traeger will find some solutions to the temp issues. I’ll probably give them a call tomorrow. The military Exchange was running a sale on the Pro 575 with the front folding shelf for $599 (no tax and free shipping) so I decided to pick it up. I just hope that the meat probe will read accurately.

I look forward to using it this summer. . . It should be a lot of fun.

I’m glad your so positive on hopes that Traeger will solve this problem. My concern is that these problems should have never occurred in the first place. If I buy a product, I would assume it functions as intended. Reading through this forum, in my opinion there are definitely enough problems for Traeger to step up and address this to all who purchased grills from them.
Long story short, I expect a product that I purchase to work as intended out of the box. Not to be contacting Traeger reps for answers, and then thanking them for a solution to a problem that should have never happened in the first place.
I went to Ace hardware this morning and received a refund for the purchase of the ironwood 650 that they were assembling as I was there. I don’t need the aggravation.

Hello Cujo,

I have the exact same issue, I tried one of does cheap oven thermometers and a digital one on different places inside the grill, I cant run my 575 at less than 225 cause if i set it at 180 it will run at like 130-150. If i set it at 200 it will run around 150 -180. And my internal temps are like yours maybe worst, at full 450 My internal temps are 350, i have pictures of it. I will try to post them.

The 575 thinks its running at 442 but its really running at 358.

Here is another example. Look at the time, same 11:07.

JohnM, I definitely hear what you’re saying. A product should be tested and brought to market with all of the bugs figured out beforehand. Right now, I have a propane Weber that can handle more of the high temp cooks. I shouldn’t have to but will wait and see what Traeger will do to address the issue.

Uncle George, it seems that we have similar issues. However, my temps that my 575 is able to reach is a bit higher. I did contact Traeger Customer Support as I was driving in the car. To make a long story short, they aren’t acknowledging that there are any problems with the Pro 575 as of this morning. That was according to the Customer Service Rep that I talked too. They haven’t received any direction from Corporate.

I’m paraphrasing here but she went on to say that the grill temperature is measured at 3 places and the temp that you set on the grill is the correct temp. She told me that you can’t trust aftermarket thermometers measuring temps at the grill because there are other factors to consider (I.e, whether or not there is a chimney, temps vary in the grill duo to the convection and air movement, etc.).

I did go on to tell her that numerous people were backing up their claims because of the longer cook times that they were experiencing. I’m going to do my first cook (baby back ribs) tomorrow and am going to set the 575 at 245 degrees which will be roughly 225 as measured with my aftermarket thermometers. For right now, I’m going with the temp settings that I came up with yesterday.

Like I was saying, they aren’t acknowledging that there is an issue with the low temps. It was more of a “we know what we’re doing” type of attitude. I need to call them back later this afternoon anyway to complete the product registration.

I’m on my phone right now so will edit this post later this afternoon.

ETA: I called them back and completed the product registration. I mentioned to the new rep that I was talking to about the temp issues that I was having. It was the same answer but she was really friendly as well. I’ll just deal with it and maybe call them back in a month. In the meantime, I’ll just use a digital thermometer to double-check the temps.
