Thanks, this is exactly what I was afraid of. Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to wait until nearly the end of the month before I get a new RTD to rule that out

I haven't heard of any problems like this with the Ironwood series. A few had some issues with temp fluctuations, but that was evidently solved by fixing their firmwareI’m having the same temperature issues as described in this thread with my 575. It sounds like a design flaw with something yet to be determined. I don’t want to deal with this issue in anyway and am considering returning the grill and moving up to the ironwood series.
Would moving up resolve this problem or is this an issue involving all models with the D2 controller?
I made the move to Traeger based on family recommendations but so far I’m totally discouraged.
Thoughts?
same here. with foil, it gets up to 420. i would hate to return it - its too much of a hassle to disassemble and box it to return. should have bought the ironwood.Like I said above. Put new RTD on. Same issue. I read somewhere to wrap the RTD in aluminum foil. I figured wth I’d try it. With the foil on I was able to get the grill up to 420 on my ambients but traeger controller said 450. At 180 it’s pretty dead on. Way better results in closeness of temps between ambients and controller than without the foil. So, may be a design issue with the insulation on the RTD.
I agree. I keep looking at the timberline. Wife will kill me if I get a 5th grill tho and after the experience with this one not sure I like Traeger.same here. with foil, it gets up to 420. i would hate to return it - its too much of a hassle to disassemble and box it to return. should have bought the ironwood.
Hate to say it but I shouldn’t have bought this 575. Finishing my cinco de Mayo meal on my Weber...The foil trick didn't seem to do anything for me, but maybe I didn't wrap it enough or something.
Doing rib eyes tonight. But not on the the traeger, pulling out the trusty Akorn for some real heat.
I did some burgers Friday night at 450, really 350 and it took longer
Here is a shot of my temps doing chicken last night, turned it up to 450 to try and crisp the skin...

Interesting, I thought I would try a turkey today since I didn't need high temps. Wrapped my RTD in foil since then I could at least get it up to 360 when set to 450 (I have the original RTD yet with a new one on order). I got it warmed up at 225 and then the controller just shut off. Went through the ignite sequence again and it has at least stayed on. Maybe it helps that the controller thinks it's at 250 (ambient just 220 though)K. So take back what I said about the foil. It helps me get to around 420 but leaving the foil on for a smoke at 200 seems to be tripping the controller out. I took the foil off and am dialing it in using my ambients.
I hope you get a reply. I initially emailed Traeger about the problems with my 575 and it's been a week and counting with no reply.Emailed Traeger this: You all sent me a new RTD. Tried it. Three different ambient thermometers tell me it’s still way off. Basically the same as before (70 degrees off at 225 and difference increases as the temp increases). Eventually put aluminum foil over the RTD and had better results (at least I can get the thing to 420 using it this way). I’m regretting buying a traeger now. It doesn’t really smoke. It doesn’t really grill. I have propane grills and stick smokers. I should’ve let things be and not bought this pro 575. All it is good for is taking up space in my garage.
