Pro 575 Not Achieving Temperatures

The take-home message seems to be however that one shouldn't expect the temperature inside the grill and what is reported on the controller to match....

They are some funny folks when they don’t have an answer lol. Oddly enough the Rec Tec is on the money.

Couple of interesting observations regarding the temperature issues with my Pro 575. On Sunday I cooked jerky and had the grill running for hours at 200F. The difference between the temperature that I set it at (200F) and the oven thermometer was very close (190F). A few days prior, I cooked chickens at 350F and the grill was holding fairly close to 335F (depending on where you placed the oven thermometer). In both cases, the weather was nice and the outside temperature was around 75F or so.

On Tuesday night, I cooked chicken breasts on the the grill. I once again set the temperature on the grill to 350F and let it warm up for a while. The oven thermometer was showing about 300F. The gap was definitely wider than last week although nothing much was different (I was using the same bag of Traeger pellets). The only difference was that it was an unusually cold evening and the outside temperature was closer to 55F. I'm now thinking the outside temperature has a lot to do with it. It may relate to the fact that the RTD in this grill is very short and too close to the side wall or maybe too much air is venting via the stack and maybe I need to screw down the chimney cap a bit and see how that goes. This might also explain why the Ironwood doesn't seem to have the same problem. It could be that the extra insulating walls on the sides of the grill and the downdraft venting system reduce the effects of low outside air temperature.

Just passing along the info in case Traeger is reading...

This could be part of the smoking gun. In my case though my 575 was way off yet it was about 70 deg out with no breeze. Something must be super sensitive, which may mean a simple fix via firmware could be tough

That's exactly how mine was. I tried the smoke stack and was still off. Its definitely a software issue.

Alrighty, well since I no longer own a traeger 575 I no longer need the cover for it. So i am offering it up to the first person to PM that they want it and with full payment See the attached picture of the the cover. Its actually a really nice cover. I was surprised when it showed up how nice it was for the price..

I've only had it a for two weeks and it's never been outside. Grill was stored in my shop.

I'll post again when it spoken for.

Cost: just pay the shipping cost. Should fit in a flat rate medium box. I'll even toss in a Spare controller unit.

Payment: PayPal friends and family option.

What's up with the pro 575 and temperatures? I can't get mine to go above 360 and the controller displays a temp that is 30% higher than actual temp. Customer service hasn't been able to resolve this and there appear to be lots of reports of this. Thanks

Dan, Please make sure that you grill is updated to 01.01.01 and then trust the temp on the controller, We have pushed an update to fix minor bugs. We take temps from multiple points inside the barrel during production. We calibrate the controller to take a temp reading at the point where the thermo couple is located and we know what temps are happening in other parts of the barrel. When you set to 225, your barrel temp on average is going to be 225, air is moving around he barrel and you food is going to on average get hit with air that is heated to the set temp. To put simply, sit back relax and BBQ.

Grilled my first burgers on the Pro 575 tonight. Threw some potatoes and vege’s on too. Set the grill to 400F and it held about 380F. Burgers were phenomenal. Slight temp gap but the food turned out great!

Traeger's engineers should use your grill as a model to figure out how to cure everyone else's

Awesome, glad you are getting it dialed in!

I rec'd a new controller (haven't rec'd a new RTD) installed it, updated to 01.01.01 and unfortunately when display says 450 the actual temp in barrel is 360. Doesn't look like a controller replacement was successful. Yet to test lower temps, but not achieving temps above 360 writes off doing many of Traeger's own recipes....

Iam not sure if the smokers that are having issues are from a batch that went to specific stores or not. I wouldn't think so.

I got mine from home depot because I knew that their return service is way way more relaxed then say Ace or Traeger.

Cabelas took mine back no questions asked. Until the issue gets fixed I would steer clear. Issue is too widely reported and documented. Got a GMG Jim Bowie. Works great.

Yeah I took mine back to HD and that day bought a Rec Tec Stampede.. So glad I did..

get rid of those bull horns and I'll buy one of those Rec Tecs.
I have 1 more month to return to HD. Cmon Traeger fix the temp problem.
