Failed to download certificate files

I think I got excited too early...........
25. Further attempts at setting up WiFire always results in same "Grill failed to download certificates" error. Back right where I started.
My experience nearly exactly, except I never got to a "Nickname Your Grill" screen before getting the "Grill failed to download certificates" error. Thanks for being a representative into Traeger's customer service for us. From what I hear, that's a painful experience.

My plan is to go home do the reset when the grill does the update, I'll leave it alone and on in standby for 24 hours, then come back to it and try to connect my phone.

Okay. I too have been dealing with these issues. I also attempted to call into the tech support line and after waiting for 3 hours in a queued call back I spoke with a very tired, young man with no help whatsoever. So I have now found this forum! Yay.

I tried everything that has been mentioned here as well over the last few days. I am also in IT for a living and attempted everything in my control with no love.

This evening I am trying the steps outlined today for reseting the unit back to factory. It seems to have kinda worked thus far. I was able to reset from the about area in the settings menu and then, after deleting the grill from my app, was able to go through the initial pairing of the device. It did finally join back up to my network! yay. That is a good step. I am not yet able to connect to the grill but I think that it may be in the updating portion of its self discovery and so I am going to let it sit overnight and see what version it shows in the morning. For now the Grill says it is joined to my network etc. The app still wants me to join a new grill, so it is somewhere in between the process maybe.

I will update my results later as I see what has or has not happened. For now I am crossing my fingers.

Thank you for this.

Unfortunately these steps: (on grill go to menu -> settings -> about the grill, then hold ignite button until Traeger logo appears) do not work to factory reset my timberline 850...

1. Factory reset (on grill go to menu -> settings -> about the grill, then hold ignite button until Traeger logo appears)
2. Then check and make sure it is not still attached to your WiFI and if so, forget WiFi (which will be under settings -> WiFi information)
3. Power grill off and on
4. Delete grill in the App
5. Go through pair grill.

Once I get to "about grill" and hold down the ignite button, I can hold down the ignite button for 60+ seconds and a Traeger logo never appears.

Are there different reset steps for the timberline series?
I too am the owner of the Timberline 850 and this did work for me to reset.

I was on version 2.0 and I held the button for maybe 10 seconds until the Traeger Logo appeared and then let go. Hope that helps.

hmmmm. Are you on software version 3.00.00.00 or whatever it’s called? How long do you have to hold the ignite button?

takes mine about 10 seconds or so. If it takes longer than 20 flip it off then on and try again. If that doesn’t work try setting to demo mode, then off demo mode then power down and back up and try again.

How do I set it to demo mode?

Thank you for helping... I did try searching so I apologize if I missed it...

Is your grill on Version 3.00 and this worked?

Edit: I have a timberline 850 if it matters.

in the settings menu toward the bottom is something called demo mode or store demo. Something like that.

mine is on 2.0 right now and I haven’t been able to get it fully working. I hit the cert error even after I get it on the WiFi.

darn, mine definitely does not have a demo mode in any of the settings.

Since you got it working with an iPhone, I'm going to try all over again with my wife's iPhone tomorrow. Hope is still alive, but fading fast.
I again am having the same exact issues as you are.
Grill is 575 pro
Phone is samsung galaxy s9.
My wife has an iPhone Xplus
I tried her phone and it wouldn't connect to the grill at all.
"Check to see if grill is on, or connect to another network if so, forget network."
So I'm with you here grill on in old version connected to wifi hoping for a magical update that fixes everything.

I think I got excited too early. I too am having issues eventually with this factory reset procedure, and eventually end back up at the certificate error.

1. I power on grill, and open Menu -> Settings -> About Grill. Shows v2.0.0, config ver: 06.008.
2. I hold Ignite button until Traeger logo appears.
3. After screen shows it's powered up, I power off. Wait 5-10 second, and power back on. (I've tried the following steps with display both on and off)
4. Open Menu -> Settings -> About, and grill shows version 01.01.06, config ver: 06.008.
5. I open WiFi settings to make sure it's running on it's own AP, and no network to forget.
6. After uninstalling phone app (Android 10), I reinstall, sign in, and start WiFire setup again.
7. Phone connects to grill, and sends my WiFi info.
8. Grill connects to my WiFi and maintains connection.
9. My phone reconnects to my WiFi network.
10. I'm presented with the "Nickname your grill" input.
11. I enter a grill name (I've been trying different names, just in case), and the app immediately goes back to main screen.
Had the exact same 1-11 experience on my iPhone. I'm hoping they corrected the issue in the 2.0 firmware so all we can do is leave our grills in standby mode and wait for 2.0 again.

Just checked my Ironwood 885 after leaving it plugged in, turned on and connected to my network overnight. It’s still on SW version 01.01.06.

Mine did the same thing, I had to forget the network and reconnect to the network as per the email instructions for it to prompt the update.
