Failed to download certificate files

I'm just grasping at straws--I realize Traeger is claiming they are working on a solution--but they also share inaccurate information sometimes. Have you performed a soft reset (or reboot) on the devices that control your home networks, and rebooted your smart phones? And as a next possible step have you updated the firmware on your devices (routers, etc) if one is available?

Also; in their faq section if you search "wifi" you'll get about 20 hits where they outline sequential troubleshooting steps. You may already be aware of these but one of them includes manually entering the UUID rather than scanning the QC. https://www.traegergrills.com/faqs
I tried every step on that faq page
Restarted every device,
Went through my router settings, turned of the 5ghz incase it was affecting something.
I can only guess that i turned the grill off, or reset the router or something when it was downloading the update.
I wish I checked my emails that day,
I'd of been aware of the update and not trying to troubleshoot why my grill wouldn't connect to my phone while it was trying to update.

I keep seeing there should be a "forget network" option in the wifire settings. For the life of me, I can not find that option when scrolling through the settings screen on the front of the smoker. I see "clear notifications", but that is the only option even close to forgetting anything. Anyone have an advice?
Also, I have heard of a soft reset of the wifire system, but can not find directions on how to do this. Has anyone run across this info? Thanks in advance!

Thanks all for this thread. Same issue on My Ironwood 885. Hope its fixed before the Super Bowl! If anyone gets the fix, please post!

Come to think of it, I did manually enter the UUID during one of the steps to resync my phone and grill. Not sure if it was the last time I tried syncing up but for now my grill and phone are syncing fine and both are v2.0

It would be under the wifi info, but if the grill isnt connected to your wifi there is nothing for it to forget.

Right. But are you on an iphone or an android or something else?

The iPhone app may be the issue.

Mine is now working again. Here’s what I did, keeping in mind I have the IPhone.
I completely deleted the Traeger app on the cell phone by pressing and holding the Traeger icon and selected delete app.
I simply reloaded theTraeger app from the App Store like I originally did then followed the prompts. After clicking the new icon, the WiFire connected to the grill immediately. I did log into my account when propted to do so.
I hope it works for you.

Did you have the failed to download certificate error?

I called back today. The person on the phone asked if I had done the basic things (delete/reinstall app, clear cache, reboot network, reboot phone, etc...) when I said I had she told me that their last update broke a lot of people’s grills and they don’t know why. She said they were aware and working on it but had no eta on when it might be fixed. I guess I’ll be using it without wifire until they fix or replace it.

I received the below response from Traeger today with some factory reset steps to try. I won't have time to try this until tonight or tomorrow. If someone getting the certificate error has time to try this and report back that would be great.

Hi Joe. We apologize for the wait over the weekend and we thank you for sending over the video This was helpful. Our IT director has informed us that you need a Factory reset as the controller is storing bad data and this is why it is having an error with the files downloading.

1. Factory reset (on grill go to menu -> settings -> about the grill, then hold ignite button until Traeger logo appears)
2. Then check and make sure it is not still attached to your WiFI and if so, forget WiFi (which will be under settings -> WiFi information)
3. Power grill off and on
4. Delete grill in the App
5. Go through pair grill.

The grill should download the new AWS firmware while pairing and get the grill connected. This should solve the issue you are having so the grill will now be able to download the files and get connected correctly. Please keep us in the loop with how this goes. Take care

Hey, just got the same message from them. Attempted this 3 times now today. It does not work. Still getting the same failed to download certificate files after going through the whole process.

Well that sucks. Thanks for reporting back.

I got the very same reply too. I just tried, and I actually had luck. It reverted my grill to v01.01.06 and I was able to get the grill to remain connected to my WiFi network. I'm still unable to add the grill in my app, but I believe that is because the grill is on old version. So I shut off and turned back on and left in standby to let it upgrade. I'll report back after the grill updates. I'll probably have to forget the network in the grill first, though, and then run through setup again.
