New Traeger Update - Jan 15 2020

I solved my connection issue yesterday. Steps below.

1. Deleted the app, reload app. Careful, it stayed at 100% for download on my phone for most of the night. I am not sure what that is.
2. Delete wifi info on Treager
3. Reconnect to the Treager through the new start up process
4. After connecting, be sure to name your treager a different name then you have ever used before
5. Mine started working perfectly. I don't know if there is a new software that helped or if it was the new name, but it all started working perfectly after that. I was concerned that it was getting confused with old file configurations from the old "named" Treager.

I reluctantly plugged mine in and activated the screen. In short order it showed firmware V 2.0.0. I checked it on my iPhone and all systems looked "go" except that it wants me to season the grill. I set it for 180, pushed 'ignite' and off it went. Temp acquisition was a little slow, stopped at about 157 and worked its way up but at least it didn't overshoot to 250 and have to work its way back down. It eventually worked its way up to 180 and held steady at 175-180. It took temp bumps up to 200 well and recovered quickly from a lid opening. It still reads 25-30 degrees more than what my Fireboard does and I am confident that my Fireboard is accurate. I would say that temp maintenance is better than one could expect but I am puzzled as to why I still have a 30* difference in temp readings between the Traeger and my Fireboard, this one escapes me as I have installed a new controller with no change in results.

Your instructions worked for me too today. One wrinkle I came across is that my WiFi 5G network it could not connect to. I had to use my non-5G WiFi network.

My IPhone would not work with the app after updating but the IPad did work as usual. Deleting and reloading the app on the phone did the trick. I used funny scanner thing when prompted and it worked fine. I was hoping they would increase the maximum temp for searing but that didn’t happen.

Steps above still do not work for me.

The T850 will not forget wifi settings, so am unable to move forward with repairing. Stuck with a $1999 paper weight that won't connect to wifi. Will be moving onto Webers new pellet grill for half the cost and more features (like actually being able to hit 600+ degrees and really sear your steak) and selling this used if it isn't fixed shortly.

A new factory reset procedure has been communicated out to us. Take a look at this post over on the "Failed to download certificates" thread.

Thank you for this.

Unfortunately these steps: (on grill go to menu -> settings -> about the grill, then hold ignite button until Traeger logo appears) do not work to factory reset my timberline 850...

1. Factory reset (on grill go to menu -> settings -> about the grill, then hold ignite button until Traeger logo appears)
2. Then check and make sure it is not still attached to your WiFI and if so, forget WiFi (which will be under settings -> WiFi information)
3. Power grill off and on
4. Delete grill in the App
5. Go through pair grill.

Once I get to "about grill" and hold down the ignite button, I can hold down the ignite button for 60+ seconds and a Traeger logo never appears.

Are there different reset steps for the timberline series?

Thanks....Question on Step 2. How do I delete the wifi info on the grill? Can't find it anywhere.

Menu -> Wi-Fi Settings. If there is a saved WiFi connection, there will be an option to "Forget Network." If not, you'll just see the grill's WiFi network, and the "Back" option, so nothing to delete.

I cannot connect to my grill. Anyone else having this issue? I am on hold with Treager right now. When I called, it says to put the grill in standby mode for 24 hours. But I have no idea what standby mode is. So...I am call #23. Talk about frustrating. I cannot even wait for a call back since I am calling from Germany. Ugh.

Really Treager? WTF?

Yes! I bought my grill a few weeks ago and have not ever been able to connect it. I have emailed & spoken to Customer Service several times, then on 1/21 they told me I was being "escalated with a Level 2 technician and they would reach out to me within 24-48hrs". Radio silence since then.

This was too much money for it not to work properly.

Hey, in case it helps anybody who's stuck with an old grill firmware and is planning to cook this weekend, I have a website that might help. Note: I'm not connected with Traeger - this is just a hobby project that I made for myself to keep an eye on the grill, but thought it might help people who are having trouble with WiFire.

If you go to https://grill.rodeo.io/ and enter the email and password you use for the WiFire app (sorry I have to ask for this, but Traeger doesn't provide any other way of authenticating that I know of!), it'll start pulling the temperature data from your grill and graphing it (you'll probably want to watch status_probe for probe temp and status_grill for your grill's temperature). The graphs currently don't auto-update, so you'll need to refresh the page. If there's demand I can add email alerts or look into how to set the temperature from the web site.

i joined to just share how i fixed my not connecting to WiFi. after the update my grill to would not connect, so i deleted the grill from my account and tried to re add it multiple times with no success. i started doing my own trouble shooting. i used three different phones all with no success, both android and iPhone. i got another router put it within ten feet of the grill still no success. Then i started to wonder if it was because my phone was connected to my router over 5GHz band instead of the 2.4 GHz. i logged into my router shut off the 5 GHz band, tried reconnecting my grill to the WiFi and it connected no problems. then my grill updated to the current firmware. i then turned my 5 GHz network back on checked my grill to see if it was still connected and everything still seemed to be working, cooked twice with the grill and everything seems to be ok. hope this helps some others with their problems.

Thanks, I'm actually going to move this post into a separate thread so it doesn't get lost. Great info, I'm sure it will help others out!

How in the WORLD! am I supposed to get the new version uploaded when my grill WILL NOT connect in the first place. It sees all the wifi signals in the neighborhood but will not connect. My purchase of this smoker has been an exercise in frustration.

I hate to reopen an old post, but someone needs to do something about Traegar Controllers. I upgraded my existing router and AP that has worked for 2-3 years straight now and of course it won't connect again. After 5-7 hours of work adding a second router(none mesh router within 10 feet and resetting everything including unloading the iphone version of the app, I got connected an it reupgraded from the reset firmware 2.00 something to 2.02.03. Well, I need this to connect back to my primary network and I would love to use my Android, which it has never worked as a way doing the initial ocnnection over the last 4+ years. I am left breaking out an old iphone to make it connect and then I am fine, but not before factory resetting, unloading apps, AC/reset, etc. Of course I mounted an AP outside under my deck (waterproof) to use my Traeger. This is idiocy that they won't admit there is an issue. They just don't want to pay for new controllers. Perhaps a class-action suit would be a good idea. I actually love my Traeger when I don't have to spend 10 hours connecting it and add an AP within 30 feet (really guys who was in charge when this decision was made).

I have to reset it one more time to get it to connect to my normal network, wish me luck.
