Failed to download certificate files

Thanks Mikey - this does not seem to work on Timberline 1300 with software version 3.0. I don’t have a sales/demo mode option and holding the ignite button does not bring about a reset. Trying to figure out if there is another option for this specific model/software as I haven’t seen one.
Are you in the About Grill menu in settings holding ignite?

Yes sir. It does not cause a reset, even holding it down for 30+ seconds. I saw someone else on this thread having the same issue, but did not see anywhere that anyone had resolved it. I can’t use WiFire at all because it says the grill is offline despite it being connected. I also can’t get the grill to forget the network and start over, which led me to try a factory reset. Thanks very much!

For anyone having this issue with a Timberline on software version 3.0. I found that the Traeger needs to be disconnected from the WiFi before you can delete it. This meant I had to turn my router off. Once the Traeger wasn't connected I was able to delete the WiFi pairing and then turn back on my router. Then start the process of adding the grill from the beginning. Hope this helps.

Anyone had this error when trying to repair their Traeger after update? My grill says version 2 but I can’t seem to get it to talk to my iPhone. When I forget the grill, delete the app, reset Wi-Fi etc it throws that error above

Your grill has failed to download certificate files

Baco,

My Ironwood 650 is running ver. 2.0.0. When I turned my grill on today I was getting the "failed to download certificate" error. Now, when I go and try to add the grill to my app, I'm receiving a "Network already exists in the system settings." error. Which is odd, because I don't have a grill installed under my WiFire, I can only add a new grill. Stuck in a loop here.

This a software issue that was pushed. (2..0) Evidently when you get close enough to your Traeger, it will always search and push the latest software update. Now when they did 2.0 ,allot of units lost their ability to connect to their network WiFi, It also removed the ability for you to "forget the WiFi and reset it". So you will have call tech support and have go through the steps to solve the problem, in the end you will have to replace the controller. This has happen to me. I've tried everything before the tech support. The new controller has been ordered. You won't be able to do any updates and until the issue is resolved. Hope this helps

Some folks have reported that Factory Resetting the WiFIRE Controller and/or putting the Grill into Sales Demo Mode, then back out of Sales Demo Mode, and starting the setup process from the beginning has helped them get Wi-Fi connectivity back between the Grill->Traeger Cloud->App Device ...

Here we are in May and I’m still having same issue! Did you all resolve this? If so, how?

Since this is your first post here - what issue are you having specifically? There are a few that people run into :) ...

Very strong wifi, cannot download files? Initial setup is going poorly. Can’t add the grill to the network, its running 2.00.00 version software. Please advise. This is a timberline 1300.

Key point, make sure your phone is connected to the 2.4GHz band of your network. Once you connect your phone to the grill's Wi-Fi during setup, the app will then pass your home WiFi info to the grill. Then the grill will attempt to connect to your network. If your phone was using 5.8ghz the grill setup will fail.

Failed to Download Certificates usually requires a Factory Reset of the WiFIRE Controller (you can step through the Troubleshooting Wizard as this is one of the scenarios listed - WiFIRE Troubleshooting Wizard: http://wizard.web.traegergrills.io/wifire/welcome) ...

2.00.00 may be the issue - that is from the January 2020 Update Release and most people who've run into the Failed to Download Certificates issue while running 2.00.00, and have not been able to get beyond that error message, end up having to contact Traeger Support for a replacement controller with 2.00.01 (at a minimum) already pre-installed ...

Give the Troubleshooting Wizard a try with the Factory Reset, but if you're still not able to successfully complete the setup process, contact Traeger Support and push for a replacement controller ...

Forgot to ask ... is this a Gen1 AC-powered Timberline 1300, or a Gen2 DC-powered D2 WiFIRE Controller Timberline 1300? If it is Gen1 - you have to contact Traeger Support for a replacement controller with 3.x already pre-installed ... this is covered on the WiFIRE Status Page (https://www.traegergrills.com/status) under CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION:
If you have an AC controller running 02 firmware and are having issues connecting it to WiFIRE®, please call our Customer Service team at 1(800) Traeger and we will get you a replacement controller with the most up to date firmware.

How would I find this out?

Yep, 2.4, passes to the grill, connects, attempts to download files, reconnects to traeger wifi and app displays that error I posted. I called traeger and they said that my firmware was fine but I had done some reading and THOUGHT I may have the known issue firmware. It sounded like the gal I spoke with was new.

How would I find this out?

Can you post a screenshot from the display for About this Grill - if it shows a Firmware and a Config Version listing, then it is Gen2 ... Gen1 grills only list Firmware ...
