What's cooking on your FlatRock or Griddle today? 🥞🥓🍔

Since you have both a pellet grill and a griddle, you might try smoking your pork chops first, bringing them up to about 125F. Then move them over to a hot griddle and sear them on both sides until the internal temp hits 145F. While they are great when cooked on either the pellet grill or the griddle, they have a special goodness when you use both cooking methods together.
Yes, I’ve done that before and prefer them that way. This cook was a quick supper cause it was getting late and the grandkids were getting hungry. ( Me too!) 🤣🤣

Onions to season. I keep seeing these tip of using an onion to season a griddle. I'm still not quite convinced but many are it seems. Is there any benefit to doing this to an already seasoned and used griddle. How is an onion helping to season this thing

From the instructions that come with 'grillgrates'

Who would have thought this could work but I'd like to give it a try. I wonder if you have to remove the old seasoning before adding this one on to the flattop?

After your initial seasoning, just use your griddle for cooking. If you like grilled onions as much as I do, you will be cooking them often and helping to maintain the seasoning on your griddle.

Neither the wife or I are huge onion eaters but I do want to try and cook some.

My wife will eat onions raw on sandwiches and burgers. If I do that, I get a headache from the sulfur compounds. However, grilling them on a griddle makes a remarkable change in the chemicals. Grilled onions are sweet rather than pungent. Also they say that onions and garlic contain compounds that are antioxidants. Try to minimize the amount of fat used on the griddle while grilling them to maximize the health benefits.

We really should try more of them.

I had to go to my local Walmart pharmacy this morning to get my RSV vaccine. Since the grilling section is only a few yards away, I decided to check out the new things for spring. One of the first things I spotted was a 16" freestanding pizza oven with a rotating cordierite pizza stone. The price was $597.

While I do not cook enough pizzas for my wife and I to justify purchase of this unit, it might be just the thing for those with large families or lots of friends.

Ouch. That would be a tough one to swallow.

I did a search and nothing popped up so apologies if already discussed. Anyone experiment with these and if so what did you think of them. Kind of pricey and I'd want 2 if I were to purchase it.

I purchased a set of grill grates for my Traeger pellet grill to see how it would work for searing steaks. I was not impressed. That is why I purchased the gas griddle (CharGriller FlatIron). It gets far hotter than any pellet grill, so it is far superior for searing.

I have tried the GrillGrates on the surface of the griddle to sear steaks. If you want the grate marks on your steaks, they do a nice job. However, I like smoking my steaks until medium rare on the Traeger and then reverse sear them on the griddle. I place a large carbon steel skillet on top of the griddle and allow it to heat up. I then add some oil, butter, garlic, and rosemary to the skillet and reverse sear my steak in the pan so I can baste them in the butter and aromatics. They turn out better than most restaurant steaks I have eaten.

Sounds good. I don't have plans on buying a smoker so I need to figure out how best to use my Griddle. The grill marks on the griddle sound good but just trying to figure out if worth the money.

If you have a gas griddle, the surface of the griddle gets plenty hot to sear and cook steaks without the grill grates. You can either sear the steaks on high heat and then move them to a cooler area of the griddle top to finish cooking if necessary, or you can start off on a cooler section of the griddle and then sear the steak on high heat to finish. It all depends upon your preferred steak temperature/doneness level.

The only reason to get the Grill Grates is to add the sear marks that some people like. I like having the entire surface of the steak seared. That is why I do not use my Grill Grates. If you like your steaks on the rarer side, using the Grill Grates might give you the grill marks without overcooking the steak. I usually cook mine to medium to satisfy my wife.
