Timberline 850 Connection Issue

My son just informed me that this new Netgear router selects the band for what tries to connect automatically. When he first set it up I had a separate name for each band. Now it is just one name for the router.
Based on your previous feedback regarding it showing as connected and then bouncing to connecting, it appears you probably need to resolve that issue first ... Jim G's suggestion to reset the WiFIRE Controller is a good place to start ... if you're going to continue to push out a single SSID Network Name, then you will need to temporarily disable the 5GHz radio, successfully complete setup, verify you can monitor/control WiFIRE, and then you can re-enable the 5GHz radio ...

On wifi info page hold ignite button down for 20-30 seconds, cycle power to start over.

I also had to turn off the connect to new networks until I was finished.
I've tried that for about 15 seconds or so and got no indication of change. I do have a D1 model grill. I also bought an old Linksys 2.4 router (not dual band) if it is a router issue

Hell, I was on with Traeger support two weekends ago and they never said anything of the sort. They had me keep doing what I was doing over and over again.

Ugh ... that is unfortunate ... their outsource partner customer service reps generally have very little knowledge of Traeger's "historical" product lineup

I contacted Traeger once again and they said that my software should still work and they can see that I had at least one update. They said I don't qualify for a new controller. The router we have automatically determines what is trying to connect and will connect on the proper band. Traeger said that is the issue. I do note, however, that I can create a "Guest Network" for either 2.4G or 5G which I can give it a separate name and password.

Is this a Gen 1 or a Gen 2 Timberline 850? If a Gen 1, it most certainly needs a replacement controller as Traeger themselves state so on the WiFIRE Status Page ...

EDIT: two similar threads going on at the same time ...you've already confirmed you're running a Gen1 Model ... point them back to the WiFIRE Status Page (https://www.traegergrills.com/status) - that is where the above information is posted ...

If this is a Gen 2, Firmware Version 02.00.00 goes back to January 2020, and was quickly replaced by version 02.00.01 ... why? because it broke Wi-Fi Connectivity for a subset of WiFIRE Controllers ... and those impacted were NEVER able to get it working again ... been down this road way too many times to count in 2020 via assisting at least 40-50+ folks via the various Traeger-related FB Groups ...

With regards to Traeger's point on the Router / WAP performing "steering" of devices to the appropriate radio (2.4GHz or 5GHz), the easiest way to eliminate that issue is to temporarily disable the 5GHz radio, restart the Router / WAP, restart the App Device, restart the WiFIRE Controller and start from the beginning ... if it fails with ONLY the 2.4GHz radio "active" via the Router / WAP, then you've proven that the issue is tied back to the Firmware ...

go here - https://www.traegergrills.com/support - click on Support Chat on the right hand side ... once you get a "live" person on Chat, point them to the WiFIRE Status Page and specifically ask them why you do NOT qualify for a replacement controller for an AC-powered Gen1 Model when they specifically state that those running version 02 of firmware need an updated version (i.e. version 3).

I bought it directly from Traeger June of 2018. I have firmware 02.00.01. I told them that, according to their website, I needed a new controller but they said I did not.

I would politely demand to speak to a supervisor (preferably a Traeger FTE versus their outsource partner) ... they state on their own Support Portal that version 02 of Firmware for an AC-powered Gen1 version of their product needs a replacement controller to resolve issues with connectivity ... contacting them via FB Messenger is your next step ... its baffling how some people get the expected response from Traeger Customer Service while others get jerked around ...

I am online with Stephanie: This is what she is saying:

"That is only for grill using version 1.00.xx software. If you are using 2.00.01 software you should connect."

LoL ... that ONLY applies to a Gen2 model ... Does Stephanie understand that Gen1 Models are AC-powered, not DC-powered, and have different Firmware Versions??? I think not ...

Here is the next:

"Android users have the signal strength feature hidden deep down in Settings. Go to the Settings app > About phone > Status > SIM status > Signal Strength."

Here is the latest:

"
Stephanie
When you are at the grill under WiFi information does it say it is connected to your home network?
Or does it show the Traeger name and Wifire password?"

As I said, it cycles from showing connected and then say trying to connect. I did ask, to purchase a new controller would be $300.

Just did a Support Chat session w/Traeger ... attaching the full chat ... read through them in order ... 01-10 ...
