Using a smoke tube to supplement the smoke flavor shouldn't be brain surgery, but mine keeps catching on fire (i.e. instead of slowly smoldering, flames...) inside the Traeger. What am I doing wrong, has anyone else had this problem?

you have to let it burn (with flame) good for 5-10 minutes before blowing it out. From there it will continue to smolder with no flame. Or at least that's how I've done it.

I was actually also ask about tips for the tube. I light mine until there is a little flame and just close it and go away, and it mostly seems ok but results have been spotty. Also since I only fill a 1/3 of it, how do you pack it? Try to keep the bottom packed, level it out, slope it. It naturally slopes and I usually try to get a smooth transition, seems like it would help with the fire problem?

Sounds like the fan is blowing air onto the tube feeding it, try placing it in a different position on the grill, or packing the wood chips tighter to make it harder to ignite so that it keep ssmoldering
