Anyone ever mount this in their Traeger? I'm thinking of doing it to both of mine.

Might be some info here,

I got the one without the nut / bolt, used plumbers tape ( with the holes)
though if you have side walls you could drill it and mount next to the existing Traeger probe. Then mount the second one same position opposite side...

I did the same as you John S., it looks just fine and is removable for cleaning. I think they want to get fancier so it looks more professional.

Are you gonna get the smaller one or the Smoker Probe??
Only $15 I think I'm gonna get 2 of the 1/4 BSP cuz they have nuts for them too...

Here is how I have mine mounted.

I just received a Fireboard and would like to utilize 2 ambient probes, on one each side of the grill.

- Would you folks recommend mounting the probes to the side of the grill as @Timmy has done above, or on the grill grates using grill clips?
- What is the piece holding the probe called? Is it plumber's strap?
- There are no pre-drilled screws on the left side of my IW885, like the ones on the right side which hold the Traeger's ambient probe. Is it OK to drill into the side of the grill?

Thanks!

Is it plumber's strap?
Do not use galvanized metal in your smoker... mine was plain thin steel and it coats black with smoke before it can rust.

Just use clips then...

Ok good advice. Home Depot has copper strap.

Just use clips then...
Does that mean it's not advisable to screw a strap into the inside of the grill?

I have an IW 650 and both inside panels look identical. Seems like you can drill very carefully into the left side sheet metal. I did on the right side. I used #10 X 1/2 self tapping or sheet metal screws. I bought 304 stainless plumbers tape at my local Grainger's and stainless screws at HD. I have two Fireboard probes without the thread mount. One in the stainless tape as in the photo next to the Traeger probe and one usually on the left rear of the lower grill.

I just mounted my FB ambient probe using copper plumber's strap/tape and the two machine screws that hold the Traeger RTD probe. See attached - came out pretty good!

@John S. and @Timmy Can you post a picture of your probe mount that you had to drill? I would like to have another ambient probe on the left side of my grill but I'm a little nervous drilling into it (not sure if I should be). Thanks.

dflaher, You do not want your probe to sit like you have it in the picture, especially while resting on 'copper' which will heat up and may affect your temp reading... You will want to make sure the TIP is as far from the copper as you can get it. So I would push it further thru so that you probe only detects the 'air' that passes over it and not detect the copper (as shown in my pic above)

Don't you have any screws or bolts used to hold that shelf sticking into your pit??
I've used my handle screws before and one of the screws that mounts the hopper

Thanks. My hopper is on the right side of the grill (same side as the RTD). I'll check when i get home to see about shelf screws on left side.
