New Costco Silverton 810 - $1299

Anybody have any experience with the downdraft exhaust vs a chimney?
Yes. I like the down draft better than my Pro 570. On supersmoke the smoke drifts out the back of the grill, gives a nice smell. The supersmoke really works, but is similar to smoking on 165.

Now if I could just find some iron grates to fit the Silverton.

My Silverton 810 will be going back to Costco soon. I really tried to like the grill, but overall I am disappointed. The grill temperature runs low by 20-30 F. The pellet sensor was defective (but now fixed). The Wifi is horrible because of the antennae being on the motherboard. Why couldn't they put an external antenna or an external connect? But the worst offender is that the grill does not produce a lot of smoke flavor compared to other grills that I have owned (Traeger Texas, Texas Elit, Lil Texax, and two Lousiana Grills). If you use smoke mode, it's limited to 225F. But at 225F, the grill is really only 200F. Give all the problems, I have decided to return the grill. I really wanted to like this grill, but it doesn't work well. And it's the most expensive grill I have purchased!

I went to Costco yesterday to take a look at the Silverton 620. They said that the 620 in store inventory was completely sold out and only available online at $799 delivered instead of the $699 in store pricing. If they had inventory in store at $699, I probably would have purchased one yesterday. At $799 it is the same price as the Pro 575. The sawhorse legs on the Pro 575 seem more stable than the cabinet base of the Silverton. With the Silverton design, I was a little disappointed with the short depth of the front table and the heat shield seemed very flimsy as an arched piece of metal vs the traditional bent steel 2 sided box. I did like the how the lid opened up to give access to the grill.

Still undecided between Treager Pro 575, Silverton 620, Camp Chef Deluxe at Sportsmans Warehouse (@$600) , or Camp Chef Winwood 24. All are at $800 except as noted, and I am awaiting for a sale to push me one way or another.

I got my first Treager Silverton 810. Here are my experiences so far with it. The unit was purchased at our local Costco 2/16. During the initial burn in smoke came out all around the lid just as everyone stated and it appears the front part of the lid has a gap to allow the probe wire to move around there is no hole or grommet for it. After seeing all the smoke leave the lid and very little in the back used some bbq felt and sealed up some of the gaps to see how it will do.
I have a concern/ question, can this silverton 810 really bbq at high heat?
The reason I ask, I tried several high heat recipes and the grill in some areas are turning whiteish/tan. The internal temp stated 495 f and the exhaust out the back 518 f. Through these high temps I noticed peeling paint under the unit in the storage area. The biggest issue was cooking a tri tip using the treager recipe and my hopper smoked like h@(( of a yellowish tan smoke. The smoke litreally changed the color of the pellet from clear to a tan color in the hopper using treager’s cherry pellet. I guess this my first bout with the infamous treager back burn and sure enough it was. I had to prime the auger out of the burnt pellets. Also under the high heat the heat shield where the drip pan lays on the coating peeled off and warped.
Has anyone else ran into this? Is this normal? Should I invest into a Yoder Or timberline? This is my first real smoker using pellets in the past I have the original Japanese Kamado and the famous Weber kettle both works great just a little more effort.
Is the silverton only used for low smoking heat recipes and to get high heat I need to use my gas grill?
i appreciate any feedback. Thanks all.

I had similar issues, switched to timberline no issues returning using FB for temps

I bought the Silverton 810 and the 620. With the Costco return policy, I decided to play with them both and decide which one I like better. After many cooks on both of them, I have decided to return the 810 and just go with the 620.

Pros for the 810:
190 sq inches more
Pellet sensor included (bought one off Amazon for $70 for the 620)
Super Smoke (only available for cooks under 225F and I can buy a smoke tube for $20)

Pros for the 620:
$600 less than ($500 after the above upgrades)

If it all comes down to size, I can literally buy two 620s for pretty much the same price as the 810 and have 430 sq inches more.

I haven't experienced the back burn that you mention. Sounds like you got a lemon. Mine is holding strong!

The cabinet design was one of the most appealing aspects of the Silverton design. You get storage space and the drip bucket is hidden from the kids and dogs. And it seems pretty stable to me. The locking casters help. I would go with the Silverton 620.

That is good to know from an actual owner. I will hit Costco on Friday for the next Treager roadshow stop in my area, and I will take another look-see.

I have had a 620 with D2 controller for almost two years and have not had one problem. I would recommend sealing the grill with lavalock gasket tape and a get a Thermoworks Smoke X2 (much more accurate than the probe that come with the 620). If you want a lot of smoke at any temperature, get a smoke tube. A happy user.............

I have had a Chogod wireless thermometer with support for 6 probes. No matter what brand of grill I get, the the built in temp probes lack in capability to my wireless thermometer. For the last month, I have been using a 6" or 12" smoke tube with my Weber charcoal grill or gas grill. These accessories will also be used on the pellet grill.

My family surprised me with a Costco 885. I was in tears being an Ugly Drum Stick Burner. I took it back for the Costco 810 for the SS
super smoke, cabinet space, and love the hidden oil drip can. My dogs would eat it. Plus storing my scrubbers and tools underneath is awesome. It works great!!! Wife loves to use it for frozen lasagna-veggies. In fact I want to get a Costco 610 just for her and small meals..plus it keeps the kitchen cooler al summer..
