Help! Looking to Purchase.. reading too much

I can answer that Timmy uses FireBoard, and it was on his and others recommendation that I purchased mine. Not cheap, but highly recommended: FireBoard 2.

Also, the front shelf doesn't come with the Pro models, you have to purchase it separately. It folds down so that cover will fit it snugly.

Alright something to look at as well, I did add the Inkbird to my list. As That looks to be a good starter one.

My goal today, visit Costco to see the Silverton 620 in person, then see if another Ace has the Ironwood 650.

I know the timberline series are out of my range.

Costco has the Silverton for $649 in store. Nice price, seems like a solid built unit for the price

So now I will consider it, plus the 2 pro units

From what I understand, one nice thing about Costco is that if you are unsatisfied with your purchase they will take it back.

My understanding too and if I add the pellet sensor I get some features of the ironwood for the Pro price. Still considering the Pro 780 too

I was in our Costco today and they had the Silverton on display. The lid was broken so I couldn’t really open it. A employee said it was returned yesterday and wasn’t supposed to be on display. He said you can return them within 90 days from purchase. He said he didn’t know if the lid was the return issue. He was operating a lift.

There are 2 screws as the pivots for the lid from what I saw. Looked like stainless screws. Did the lid look damaged? Honestly the lid on the Silverton looked much more robust then the Pro or Ironwood.

Edit: when I was looking at it today, I opened and closed the lid several times looked over the whole grill. What I cannot find is when this version was released. There was a Silverton and now a Silverton 620 and Silverton 810. The latter of the that list are new and the first is the older drive design (which most of you probably know)

I really didn’t get a chance to touch it. The guy with the lift was already putting it on a pallet and the lid was sitting slanted, didn’t look damaged but really couldn’t tell. Before I was given my 780 I was in Costco and a Traeger rep was displaying a few grills. All of them felt really sturdy but I wasn’t really that interested but my friend that was with me was talking to him. Then probably two months later I was given on. I remember telling my friend (not the one who gave me my 780) “you won’t catch me with one of those”, lol. I really don’t think you have any worries, Costco sells a ton of Traeger’s, they wouldn’t continue selling them year after year if they had a lot of issues with them. I really think it’s just depending on how much you’ll use it. I’ve been reading a lot about Traeger’s, I think they all cook the same just made different. I’ve got a friend with an Ironwood and another with a Yoder, they cook the same, no good smoke flavor, lol.

So minimal smoke is probably better for the family. However in reading more, the Costco one primary grate is only 363 sq in. Smaller than the 575, which is 415 or around there. When I looked at it, that seemed small to me. Reading somewhere it said only 4-6 burgers. While that is not what I would cook on it, it gives a better perspective. It is hard when the Costco, 575 and 780 are not all side by side. The 575 and 780 are good to gauge size. I have seen all but an Ironwood 650. The decision continues

Well if no one is rushing you then you’re smart to take your time and do your research. I drive my wife crazy every time I buy a new truck. I always buy a Ford but I have to look and drive them all. Then I have to consider all the options I want, lol. I’m sure you’ll make the right decision. If not then (like my wife says) I’ll have to make the best of it. I really just kinda joke about the smoke part. I live in South Carolina, we judge our BBQ by the smoke flavor. My family roots go deep into BBQ but here in the south we consider “BBQ”smoked pork or Chicken. Most everyone else considers “BBQ” grilling out.

Only thing rushing me is the sale that ends in. 12/24

I think that situation tells you all you need to know about the Silverton. In order to meet Costco's price point, Traeger had to cut some corners during the design and manufacturing process. There is no way the lid should break on a grill if it is properly made.

When I was looking at Traegers (as well as competitors), I looked at the Silverton and was not impressed with the build quality. Be sure to tap on the sheet metal to determine which one uses heavier gauge steel. On the Traeger web site, the Silverton 820 has a rating of 3.6/5.0 with a number of 1 star ratings. The Silverton 620 is only rated 3.3/5.0 with almost as many 1 star ratings as 5 star. That would not endear me to those models.

So I am purchasing a new gas grill and a pellet grill. I currently have a 17yr old Weber and I am replacing that with a Weber

I am also buying a Traeger or planning to.
I am looking at the Pro 575, Pro 780 and the Costco Silverton 620.

Now I have read and been told about issues with the Silverton Ambient sensor. IS that true?

I like the features of the silverton and the price is right now ~$750. but the other 2 are within budget as well, if I could I would do the Ironwood 650, but that is a bit out of my range.

please tell me pros and cons of each.. What would be the best for me? This will be my first pellet grill

Thanks
If I were you, I’d look at competing pellet grills before buying a Traeger. I’m on my second and last Traeger. Traeger once was the top of the line. But as the quality diminished over the past few years, it’s no longer the top of the line. But it is still priced that way. There are some pretty good competitors out there that are just as good, even better, that are priced much cheaper.

Ok,

I see aftermarket side shelves and such for the Pro units. Does anyone make a cover to fit with the aftermarket shelves in place?
