Help! Looking to Purchase.. reading too much

Hey I need a favor.. anyone have a Ironwood 650 that could snap some pictures of the rack setup and spacing from the top rack to the top of the grill? Deciding between the 2 Ironwoods.. honestly I think I might be fine with the 650. the primary area is about the same as my Weber Genesis.. BUT I have not seen the 650 in person. I have seen both Pros and the IW 885, just not the 650. If I can find them both somewhere to compare it would be the best..

Also I assume the IW 650 has 4 wheels for moving it around?

Thanks
Go look at the customer photos uploaded to the Traeger website. Some of those may help. If you have questions about specifics and no one is able to chime in you should try the text support option on Traegers website. They are wonderful.

It has 4 wheels. Two of them are fixed and two of them swivel. It's pretty easy to move around. There is a good amount of room on the top rack. I had a spatched 14 pound turkey on mine for Thanksgiving. The spacing would be the same as you saw on the 885. The 885 is just 8'' wider. If you have an Ace Hardware near you, they may have more models on display. I believe they are still on sale right now as well.

Several Ace hardwares close. One that is my go to did not have it. There is another but may or may not get a chance to stop there. I am also wanting to see the Silverton. I see temperature issues when I search, but those read to me like the common issues with all. Maybe my Google-fu skills are not so good

In my area Home Depot carries several Traeger’s in stock.

If you go with the Silverton, just make sure your vehicle is big enough to fit it so you can return it when the time comes :censored:

I am still trying to wrap my head around what causes it to be such a bad unit. I meant the controller and auger are the same. Hooper and draft system are from the IW. Only thing is the cabinet and cooking area that are different.

After lots of thoughts and question s and appreciated answers I am down to where I started the silverton or the 575/780. I will add the pellet sensor though. Then a cover and shelf. I like the idea of all the wheels but is it really difficult to move the 575 without the swivel wheels? My patio has a slight pitch so the 574 will at least not move once in place.

Thought you'd settled on one of the Ironwoods?
The 575 isn't bad to move as long as you're relatively capable and you don't move it often. I had shoulder surgery in October and my set up at the time required me to move it a bit and it sucked. My cousin in law is a distributor though and he hooked me up with wheels. If you have the space the 780 is a no brainer IMO

I was settling that way, but I tend to over think things and started to think about the comment of the cost vs accessories.. The other was use.. If I know I am going to use it a lot, then the Ironwood would be a no brainer. If I only end up using it a few times a year, then the Pro might be a better purchase to allow to put money elsewhere, accessories, etc.

Honestly, I like the price and features of the Silverton, but still looking to see the issues with that specific grill. I am reading the Silverton 810 thread to see if there are so obvious issues. One of the guys at Ace said there are temperatures issues with them, but did not specify. Reading here they all have temp issues (offset of setting vs reading)

But I am still open, however I think I have decided it will be the Pro like I first pointed towards, or Silverton 620, unless I find more direct threads for issues with it

Good luck. It's a big purchase either way.

Thanks, yes it is. Especially when there are unknowns
I for the Pro 780.

I could be a little biased tho.

I'm with Timmy. I love my Pro 575. My only regret is that I didn't opt for the larger Pro 780. I think the motto is pick which line you can afford (Pro, Ironwood or Timberline) and then get the largest model in each line and you won't have any regrets.

yeah looking at that angle as well. Theoretically I could probably afford the Ironwood 885, but the question is how much I will use and if it is too big or not. as I mentioned, I am the one that likes smoked food in the house out of 4 of us and int he fall we will be down to 2.. 1 in college and 2nd going in fall. So I am leaning towards the smaller and even the Ironwood 650 might be good enough. I still keep thinking of the silverton 620 (yes read reviews on Traeger and Costco, along with here) but I need to put my eyes on it see if it truly will work for my needs.

One thing I keep forgetting is the Pro and Ironwood have the drip bucket exposed and I have 2 dogs, so that is a consideration, one might stuff there nose in and feast. So still have some time, but will purchase before the current sale ends..

Timmy,

what is the Thermometer you have? I see it in a picture, did you. make a custom mount for it?

Also those with the Pro/Ironwood with the front shelf how tight is the cover? if too tight, my concern is removing/covering in winter..
