Lets talk Aluminum foil

My local H-E-B has BBQ foil. 18"x75' for about $14.95 and it works great. Very heavy duty and the 18 inch width is perfect for lining both my Ironwood and Century 22 drip trays.

Lots of great info here everyone! Thanks!
I've come to the conclusion im going to keep getting the heavy duty Reynolds wrap foil in 18" locally for the drip tray liners, and get a bulk heavy duty foil roll of 24" for wrapping probably from Amazon. Thanks!

Yesterday, I purchased a CostCo Kirkland brand heavy duty Food Service foil (18" x 500 feet) for $23.998 before sales tax.

Just ran out of Reynolds Pitmaster, and it is no longer available on Amazon (maybe because the price has increased over 2X).

Anyone know where else to buy it? I’ve never seen it in a store.

Thanks for the other suggestions. I suppose I can try Costco/Kirkland HD. I’ve used Reynolds HD, it’s ok, not as good as Pitmaster.

Local Costco here has Reynolds HD. Been using it for years but only for wrapping ribs or pork butt and lining the drip tray. Works for me.

IN the United States, aluminum foil was produced and actively marketed to consumers by Reynolds Metals Corp as Reynolds Wrap. My father worked for Reynolds at the corporate offices in Richmond, VA until his retirement. Thus, I always used that brand of aluminum foil.
Reynolds Metals was the 2nd largest aluminum company in the USA and the 3rd largest in the world. In 2000, Reynolds Metals was acquired by Alcoa Aluminum. In 2020, Alcoa spun off Reynolds Group Holdings as Pactiv Evergreen which is headquartered in New Zealand. There are still foil manufacturing plants in the USA.

In case anybody is wondering, the Reynolds name came from the founder Richard S. Reynolds who was a nephew of R. J. Reynolds of tobacco fame. The initial foil products produced by Reynolds Metals were used for tobacco packaging.

The basic differences in aluminum foil are the thickness and presence or lack of embossing patterns. For grilling applications, always use the thicker, heavy duty foil. Typically HD foil also comes in wider widths. You do not have to use the Reynolds brand, but you won't go wrong by doing so.

I am in Colorado Springs and the foil is listed for sale at the following. $7.98 a roll at Walmart. Hope this helps.

Is the Pitmaster's Choice thicker than Heavy Duty?

Couldn't find any thickness spec on Pitmaster, but below is general info on foils.

The regular-duty aluminum foil rolls are cost-effective foil rolls for commercial and domestic use. Standard duty foil rolls for home usage are typically 75 to 250 feet long and come in a different range of thicknesses. The majority of “Standard Duty” foil rolls are between 0.0004 and 0.0007 inches thick.

Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil

By far the most popular aluminum foil for both residential and commercial use is the heavy-duty aluminum foil. For residential use, most people purchase 75-foot rolls of aluminum foil. Extra strength and tear resistance are provided by heavy-duty foil.

It’s popular among cooks for baking, grilling, and storing. The majority of “Heavy Duty” aluminum foil rolls are between 0.0008 and 0.001 thick. For a variety of applications, the extra three-thousandths of an inch makes a considerable difference.

I found this on Amazon Q&A: regular: 0.63 mil, HD: 0.94 mil, Pitmaster 1.4 mil. Not sure of the accuracy but I've seen other claims that it's 1.5 times thicker than HD so that agrees.

What brand do you use?
Do you buy it at a store or online?
Do you buy in bulk? Large rolls or small rolls?
Do you purchase 18" or 12" wide rolls? Or wider?

I buy usually at Walmart. I buy 18" wide, Reynolds Heavy duty foil. Id like to find some 20" or 24" wide. Quality bulk would be my choice.
I just bought another roll from Sam’s Club. $29.98. It’s really good and not a bad price, last a while. My buddy got some last year from Amazon that was 24” but it was pricey.

Yeah, Amazon is convenieent, but Sam's and Costco generally have better pricing if you plan on going.

One thing good about Amazon is that I can order an inexpensive item ($10-15) and have it delivered. We have been Costco members for many years and always spend $300-400 everytime we go. That is why we only go once a month, we cannot afford to go more often.
