Goodbye guys

Did you know that Kamado Joe and Masterbuilt are business partners? Joined a few years ago.
thanks for the tip on lump I think I will go that way with the odd chunk of wood thrown in.

Both reputable brands. Nice to see them teamed up.
I am looking forward to seeing your results and hearing your thoughts

Today is seasoning day and also looking for wood chunks that don't come from China!.
Haven't settled on lump or briquettes yet, will try both and go from there.

Briquettes will create much more ash plus they have binders & other non-natural stuff that straight up lumb charcoal does not.

Stay away from Kingsford & other briquettes. You food will thank you.

Startup looks to be quick, I wonder how long it takes to cool down enough to cover back up.

After a 450F cook, I open my Timberline hood at shutdown and it's ready to cover as soon as the fan stops.

Déjà vu with my Masterbuilt, can't get over 400F atm and they suggested that I remove the app, reinstall and wait for the update! sound familiar?
OMG! Seriously??

Ironwood,Timberline, or Yoder?? 😁

At the moment I am doing some beef ribs at 225 and it is going along sweet. The fan just running and maintaining temp good. When they are done I am going to crank it up to 600F and see what happens.

Hi there....new to the forum but I am in the market for a Masterbuilt. I currently have an offset smoker and had considered the Traeger Timberline 1300, but wanted your thoughts on the Masterbuilt 1050. Do you mind sharing your pros and cons about it?

Not a problem.
First quality: The Traeger is a better built machine. The MB is a little behind in that regard. There are dozens of mods that people have built to overcome some problems. I have three on mine.
Model: I picked the 1050 over the 560 because it looked better built, had more than enough space for what I wanted. If the 800 was available in Australia I think I would have bought that model.
Ease of use: I loved the ease of cooking with my Traeger, setting and forgetting, walking to the shop and watching what the temp is was a big benefit. The MB is a simple machine that only requires 12v to run a small fan
Results: I could never blame my Traeger if something didn't work out. I have cooked some great meals. The MB is a lump charcoal with wood chunks machine with a big hopper that is gravity feed, a fan assists in keeping the temp. One lit it will work as planned. The software leaves a lot to be desired but with my Fireboard it all works out ok.
Cleaning: A lot better since I bought a s/steel cover for the inside, fat drips onto that rather than a metal cover which gets very hot and can cause fires. So cleaning on both is the same.
Cooking: One thing I missed when using the Traeger was getting a taste that I wanted, Using different pellets would not give me a taste i was after. Now the MB with lump charcoal gives me a more distinct taste. I did some bacon the other day and added maple chips throughout the hopper, smoke was perfect and the taste was fantastic. I do not use a lot of rubs but I use two from the Bearded Butchers, Blend seasoning Black and Hollywood..
Attention: I loved the Traeger, as I said, it a light and forget machine. The MB does need a bit extra time to get it all set and of course you can get dirty using lump.
Overall: This is going to sound funny but I am satisfied with the results from the MB but I miss my Traeger!!

Hope that helps.

davwhite Thanks for the detailed information comparing the Master Built to your former Traeger.

I know for a fact that this group can help empower you to have multiple smokers. It is not what you need but rather what you want. I support you re-purchasing a Traeger to complement your MB and cure your miss. Possibly then a Yoder as well for three smokers. Then you will need more space. This will enable you to justify a dedicated outdoor kitchen for smoking. It now becomes a need.
We are here to help. :ROFLMAO:

Thanks Spanky for your king thoughts and suggestions
Unfortunately in retirement you have to watch your pennies. If it wasn't the case then I would be into a Yoder as quick as you could say 'Jack flash', maybe a Traeger for backup and of course the MB as a third string. Maybe it's because I am the only red meat eater in the family that I keep to one smoker.
