Timberline 1300
Hi everyone,

I’m Phyllis Harris from New York and I’m thrilled to be part of this amazing community! I’ve recently started my grilling journey with the Timberline 1300 and I must say, it’s been an exciting ride so far. The forum has already been super helpful for tips and tricks, so thank you all for sharing your expertise!

That said, I’ve hit a bit of a snag and was hoping you could help me out. I’ve been noticing some inconsistency with the smoke output. Sometimes it’s barely visible and other times it feels a bit too much. I’ve tried adjusting the settings and cleaning out the fire pot but it still feels like something’s not quite right.

Does anyone have any tips or troubleshooting advice for maintaining consistent smoke on the Timberline 1300? Could it be the pellets I’m using or is there a specific setting I might be overlooking?

Looking forward to hearing your insights! Thanks in advance and I can’t wait to connect with more grill enthusiasts here.

The higher the temperature setting, the less smoke you will get. At temperatures below about 225F you will get a fair amount of smoke with even more if you drop below 200F. At temperatures above 225F the smoke starts to drop off. At 400F you will get essentially no smoke. So the secret to smoke is to cook low and slow. I like smoke, but not heavy smoke taste, so I do most of my cooks at 225F. If you like heavy smoke, try below 200F.

The actual cook temperature of the grill is likely to differ from the setting on the controller. Each grill is different. My Ironwood dddddis about 25F low at 225F and over 50F low at 400F. You need to learn how your Timberline works. Do not rely on the controller temperature until you know how you grill functions.

Welcome to the forum. I’m sure the braintrust will help you out here. I just cook low on my smoker. Higher the temp means less smoke on mine. I’m still learning as well.
Thank you for the warm welcome! It’s good to know I’m not alone in figuring out the quirks of my smoker. Cooking low does seem to be the way to go for more smoke, I’ll experiment with that more and see how it works out. Appreciate the encouragement!

Wow, thank you for such a detailed explanation! That makes so much sense about the temperature ranges and how it affects the smoke output. I’ll definitely try cooking lower, maybe around 200F, to see how the Timberline behaves. I hadn’t thought much about how the actual temp might differ from the controller I’ll keep an eye on that too. Looks like I need to spend some more time getting to know my grill. Thanks again for the insight!
