WiFire issue

I’m sure I did the factory reset when I was speaking with support. Can’t quite remember exactly what it was but I think I had to hold the ignition for 3 secs (or something like that.) then turn the grill off and wait a short while and turn it back on. Nothing changed and I just got the same message of “downloading files”
FYI as I mentioned before, I don’t get the “Forget Network” in the WiFi Information. I only have the info of the Network I’m connected to and “downloading files” ...and then “back” ...that’s it.

Either I've missed it or you haven't answered this question yet - what is the value of the SSID: field in the Wi-Fi Information sub-menu?

EDIT: adding picture -you should see SSID: with your Wi-Fi Network Name listed (my IoT specific Wi-Fi Network is called idIOT as shown in the attached screen shot)

Menu button -> navigate down to Wi-fi Information option -> press in dial button to select -> then the Wi-Fi INFORMATION sub-menu will show the following ... SSID: , Signal Strength , MAC: , and a Back option, as well as a Forget Network option (if successfully attached to a Wi-Fi Network) ...

The About Grill option shows the installed SW VER: (this is the firmware), CONFIG VER: (this is where features are updated/added), UUID: (this is the value used by the Traeger Cloud back-end to identify your grill, track your usage, and determine whether the controller is in need of any updates) ...
Is the SSID: value under the Wi-Fi Information screen blank/empty, showing Bolton Network, or Traeger-XXXX (where XXXX are alphanumeric characters) ... if it is blank/empty - your controller is definitely screwed up ... Have you performed the Factory Reset steps on the WiFIRE Controller when you spoke with Trager Support?
I am definitely not getting the same info you mention. When I scroll down to WiFi Information, depress the select button, it tells me WiFi Information Connected to (my home network) Downloading Files and then the “Back” button...there is nothing else...I.e. “SSID” is not displayed at all...only what I have said (connected to Bolton Network, Downloading Files and the Back button

Ok ... yeah then your controller is stuck in a hung process state and if the Factory Reset you did with the Traeger Support rep did not clear the Downloading Files message from the display ... you need to call them back and ask for this to be escalated ... because a "working" WiFIRE Controller that is behaving "as expected" will mimic the screen shots I have provided in this thread, and given your feedback, your controller isn't "working as expected" :)

Power cycling the controller with that message displayed should return the controller back to its normal operation mode ... the fact that after power cycling, and Factory resetting, you still show that message, means that the controller is stuck/hung on a process that it will not gracefully release, and short of escalated assistance from a Tech Lead who can offer up some other means to get the controller to "reset", Traeger will need to ship you out a replacement controller ...

Ah! Ok. Too bad. Thanks very much for your help. Much appreciated. I’ll give them a call and try and escalate it further. All the best

What happens when you power up the controller while you power off your home WiFi? Does it skip passed the downloading files and allow you to forget network?

Alternatively, can you power down your home WiFi and enable a hotspot on your phone with the same SSID and password and see how the grill responds going through your cellular data?

Hmm! Sounds a good idea. I haven’t tried this though I have powered down the wifi several times and reset the Traeger settings...and it kept coming back still locked onto my wifi network and downloading “update files”. Ultimately there was no provision for me to “Forget Network” which apparently there should have been. I did not try and use the phone as a hotspot... never thought about it, though seems a good idea

Anyway after speaking with Traeger support and trying to reset everything and following their suggestions, they concluded my controller was hooped and have sent me another one. I haven’t had the chance to install it yet .
Thanks for your suggestions though which are very much appreciated.
