Weather (Rain)

Just put a cookie sheet upside down over the pellet box, should be fine.

I've read that suggestion a few times but on my Silverton 810 the pellet box lid already looks like an upside down cookie sheet. I just not seeing anyway for water to get in there.

I hope I'm not messing up here ignoring all this great advice you guys are offering :) I'll let you know! I'm a guy that never reads the instructions and usually has to mess it up myself to really learn anything, LOL.

Actually, I was just looking for anyone to chime in that they've been cooking in the rain with no problems. If I don't hear from anyone, well, even if I do, I'll let you know by the end of the day today - 'cuz it's pouring outside and I've got some ribs that need smokin'

If I had a bigger BGE, I'd just put them on there but I'm smoking 3 full racks that my large Egg is just barely not too big enough, even in a rib rack it's tight. Rain never bothered that thing for all day cooks.
I think it should be fine, I would look at protecting the plug connection and the probe port. No sense in risking water getting in and causing any problems. Probably the only issue will be using a bit more pellets than you would on a dry day.
I think Primo had the right idea with their oval design on some of their Kamado grills. My biggest issue with my Kamado is the sizing due to being round.

what i found online was that the Traeger could be used in light rains.....and light is pretty subjective. Idk.......Good luck though!!

I mean you’ll probably be ok, but putting a larger cooking sheet over the pellet box to protect it and the controller is a pretty minimal action to stay on the safe side

I may have to get one of those!
If I knew I could trust it’s quality I’d take a chance on it at the price for sure. The only problem is I’d already have holes in my house if it turned out being crap after a year

Has been a real bummer.......My current set up isn't covered and I've been hit with summer showers the last two nights. I don't see anything in the warranty telling me I can't use the Traeger in the rain, but it doesn't seem like a good idea to me.....what do you guys think? I've gone out both days and just held some umbrellas over it which sucks.

I think I need (possibly) to get me either a retractable awning over my grill area or just a pop up tent for such situation.
Grilling was meant for the elements! I've Traeger'd in snowstorms & the rain (royally sucks) with no issues whatsoever. The grill works great & has never malfunctioned during or after a cook in the rain. I've never covered the hopper or electronics in the rain during a cook. Just dress warm and/or dry & fire that beast up.

A lot of responses on how to protect your Traeger in the rain but has anyone actually had any problem with using it unprotected in the rain? I don't see any risk to the hopper or electronics and maybe the only factor would be if the rain is cold and affects the pellet burn rate to keep the temp you want.

What am I missing here? I'm planning to throw some ribs on mine today and it's supposed to rain all day, sometimes hard.
Never had an issue with mine in snow or rain. I just make sure the plug is secure & in a dry area usually off the ground.

If we worried about 100 degree weather here, we wouldn’t get much cooking done.
That’s the main reason I bought the Traeger…. Put the meat on and go back inside and watch the FireBoard app.
Much better than feeding my 500 gallon offset every 45 minutes…😉

Wait, we’re not supposed to cook when it’s 100? Whew, good thing it’s only 99 here today because I have this on the grill…and a mai tai in my hand…enjoying the new A/C system that was installed today!
