Has been a real bummer.......My current set up isn't covered and I've been hit with summer showers the last two nights. I don't see anything in the warranty telling me I can't use the Traeger in the rain, but it doesn't seem like a good idea to me.....what do you guys think? I've gone out both days and just held some umbrellas over it which sucks.

I think I need (possibly) to get me either a retractable awning over my grill area or just a pop up tent for such situation.

And yes.....I’m new to the Traeger, am positing a lot, and plan to soak as much info from this board as I can 😀😀

I’d use a patio umbrella or one of those pop ups that you mentioned. You can get them pretty cheap these days.

seems it would also be good for the summer sun as well.

Definitely. I do wonder how something like this would work

If you have the room, one of these works well. Walmart sometimes has them cheaper.

That is similar to the first one I had purchased. It was built strong, but a bit of a chore to set up and take down. It would have been good had I wanted to leave it up.
I took it back and got this one
It is a lot easier to set up and take down, can even be done alone.
The quality is alright for the price.
Depends on whether you want to leave it up or if you're going to use it only as needed.

If you want something that is more commercial grade take a look at these. Expensive but they are built to last. We have one of these for camping trips and it's great because you can add sides for wind / rain, get mesh sides for bugs, and the little overhang is nice. the downside to cooking is there is no vent on the top (I don't use it for cooking though)

If you want to leave something up longer this is one of those "buy once" type of purchases.

This will be my shelter on my patio when the concrete is done. Definitely more of a permanent fixture. I have canvas sides for it to enclose as needed. I should be able to cook outside all year now

Its been raining off and on here frequently while I've been cooking. I've just been throwing a cookie sheet over the electronics for now.

A lot of responses on how to protect your Traeger in the rain but has anyone actually had any problem with using it unprotected in the rain? I don't see any risk to the hopper or electronics and maybe the only factor would be if the rain is cold and affects the pellet burn rate to keep the temp you want.

What am I missing here? I'm planning to throw some ribs on mine today and it's supposed to rain all day, sometimes hard.

Although these are designed as outdoor appliances, I don't recall seeing Traeger listing an 'IP' rating. Without that testing and rating you are left to assume that it should be okay. But to what level? Whatever you are willing to risk.
There are probably thousands of Traeger's that sit out in the rain and get used in the rain. Not everyone has covers for their grills or over their grilling areas.
If you are looking for someone to tell you it's okay in the rain, and there won't be any problems, that may have to come directly from Traeger. Especially if you are under warranty still.
The controllers seem to be built pretty water resistant, the internal circuit board is enclosed and wiring is protected. The only exposed opening is for the probe. So it should probably be OK, but that's an individual decision and not a recommendation.
I'd say use it how you want to. Just make sure there is no chance of any electrical shorts from the plug.

Actually, I was just looking for anyone to chime in that they've been cooking in the rain with no problems. If I don't hear from anyone, well, even if I do, I'll let you know by the end of the day today - 'cuz it's pouring outside and I've got some ribs that need smokin'

If I had a bigger BGE, I'd just put them on there but I'm smoking 3 full racks that my large Egg is just barely not too big enough, even in a rib rack it's tight. Rain never bothered that thing for all day cooks.
