For anyone in the UK, I picked up a decent cast iron reversible griddle for £20 from cheap supermarket Lidl. Cheaper than the Traeger one and looks pretty good! Also have a little meat thermometer for like £7..

I'll defo be getting one of these, thanks for the tip mate. I bought a Traeger one a few weeks ago and put it directly on the TimberXL induction hob from room temp and warped it inside 5 minutes. Waste of 50 quid...Learnt my lesson proper :)

Even if the griddle says it is pre-seasoned, be sure to apply several coats of seasoning to both sides of the griddle. If you are unsure of the proper method of doing this, you can find videos online.

When heating the griddle, be sure to ramp up the temperature slowly. Cast iron is not a great conductor of heat, but it holds heat well. Thus, if you apply high heat to the bottom of the griddle, the top side will be significantly cooler and can cause the griddle to warp. The top and bottom sides need time to equalize the temperature.

I just purchased a CharGriller Flat Iron griddle with cold rolled steel top. Cold rolled steel is similar to cast iron in head conductivity. Although I ignite the burners on High, I immediately turn the burners down to low and then adjust the flame higher as the griddle surface temperature increases.
