My large tinfoil drip tray is black and full of burnt oil and grease from cooking ribeye steaks
When it went to 500 degrees it was smoking like crazy

Some guys here it MELTS at those high temps... so if you need use that high temp, then take the foil out first

I get the same thing with the drip tray liners

The gook on there just burns up at those temperatures instead of draining off --- & produces all of that smoke.

But, I have never had anything "melt".

Next time, I will put a disposable pan on the Traeger drip pan to catch everything.
Then I will remove the disposable pan before going to the high temp.

Other than the seasoning I tried 500 once to reverse sear some rib eyes. Almost ended in disaster. I won’t use my IW above 325.
If you check out some more threads here you will find that a lot of us have had similar experience.
