Timberline 1300 lighting

your problem is exactly why i called. I have a pro 22 that is fired and ready to play in 5 to 10 mins.
But, for this "flagship" model, it takes forever with an error that pops up on the phone every single cook

Keep us up to date with how it goes. I may call them in a week or two if my ignition times do not improve. I'm usually between 14-20 minutes before it preheats. Not good when many report ~5 minute times. That would be ideal, and would reduce the amount of smoldering and white smoke at startup. I'm sure my neighbors think I'm about to burn the neighborhood down.

Yes, firepot/hotrod assembly replacement fixed my slow start and errors. My subsequent controller replacement was unrelated to the slow starts.

Now if they would get new updates flowing again, all will be good.

My cold smoke generator, insulation material, and stainless steel strips are coming together today, so my next Covid project is about to begin!

I had something similar happen to my Ironwood the other day. Its been working reliably for a year, the only thing that changed is my better half added an extension cord into the mix. I had it connected with a 50' extension cord, but then she added a 25' to run some outdoor stuff off of. The rod would get hot for just a few seconds it seemed, enough to slightly darken the pellets it was touching. Removed the power cord, and all was well, lit up fast like usual. Could be that the drop over the length of extension cord is the issue, can you try a shorter run or a thicker extension cord?

The specs say that these grills draw 100 Watts max, the gen 2 units are DC powered from a power brick. I'd be really surprised if a long cord would affect much, as long as they were good cords.

That said, the hot rod draws the most power.

I said the exact same thing. There's no way it draws that much current, plus if the DC converter wasn't getting enough juice it wouldn't even turn on, right? Well turns out I was wrong. Removed the extra extension cord and it fired up nice and fast. I took apart the whole unit. Removed the hot rod and all. Turns out it was just the extra length of cord. Go figure

I called Traeger customer service today. Did a remote/streaming session with them. They believe my slow ignition is due to my fan.

It pulses 3-4 seconds on, then maybe 5 seconds off... then repeats. They said it should be full blast ON during startup. It will be full blast on once it gets to pre-heating, but doesn't do that during startup.

Seems weird that the fan would be @ fault when it does seem to work during the cook a-okay. Would't that be more of a controller thing?

Do your fans run full blast during ignition, or pulse?

No, my TL850 fan has varied fan cycling like yours during ignition, until it really sees the heat rising.

My slow starts were resolved by a new firepot/hotrod assembly.

Man I got a 850 with a bad controller. I gave my camp chef away. I have not even cooked on this stupid thing. After reading all this I think it's going in the truck and get many $$$$$ dollars back.

Honestly, I love my 850, it is rock solid construction wise, and easy to service. When problems come up it's been pretty easy to resolve, but one needs a dose of patience at times.

Thanks. Could not tell yaz. Have not even cooked a hot dog on this thing yet. Now store rep. tells me I can't bring it back to the store without a approval from Traeger. Are you kidding me lady?
Did you have to fight to get the pot/hot rod replaced? All my questions have been answered by you and the Traeger reps had no idea. The external antenna for one.

My interactions with Traeger have been smooth, parts in a week or so, and easy to install.

My interaction with them was also good today. I don't agree with their solution for my problem, but I only had to wait 3 minutes in the queue before talking to a customer service rep.

I suspect I'll still have the same issue once I install the new part, but on the bright side I'll have a spare fan.

Agreed, if you are having slow starts, like 15-20min and possibly "Failed to start" type errors even though it does actually fire up, then I vote for Firepot/Hotrod assembly. Mine now starts in 5 minutes or so.

Just don't like getting jacked around. After 4 Techs and 2 days say they are going to 2 day a controller to me. Then call today, on hold for 6 minutes to find out it is still in the warehouse. And then have the dealer I bought it from tell me I can't bring the grill back without approval from Traeger? Wants me to take it back more.

But I do have a question. Do they perform smears samples on your hopper to see I you have used non Traeger pellets to void your warranty of what?

After dealing with Traeger for 3+ months on an issue with my last grill, I learned one thing. You have to tell them what you want. If you don’t, they’ll keep sending you replacement parts and have you troubleshooting forever. As soon as you tell them you want a replacement, they’ll escalate your case and make it happen.
