More of an advertisement, but gives a fair breakdown on the unit and how it functions

Will have to make the decision between ThermoWorks and FireBoard! I have been waiting for one of these two companies to come up with one and they did so almost at the same time.

I really like how the ambient probe is separate from the meat probe (even though I wish it was also wireless).

I've tried a few different MEATER models. The probes lost their connection all the time. The cooking estimators were way off. Their app was very user friendly but the products are trash. The wired probes that come with the Traeger are more reliable.

This is a WOW... I'm gonna keep this one in my 'wish list'

The cook estimator on the FireBoard (analize) is surprisingly accurate if the cook time is long enough. Shorter cooks I don't think there is enough data to accurately predict a finish time. This may be true for the other brands and their predictive finish times. I have never tried another brand

I tried the MEATER, MEATER Plus, and MEATER Block. I almost gave the MEATER 2 Plus a go when it was on sale for Prime Day but then I saw the Thermoworks announcement. I'm very happy with my Pop and Mk4. If this is even close to the same quality and reliability, it'll be a home run.

When using the MEATER for a brisket, I had it get stuck in the "estimating cook time" for hours and hours. And then once it finally finished estimating, it would display something ridiculous like "25 minutes remaining". And it really still had 4-6 hours left to go.

I did a Live Chat with Thermoworks yesterday because I wasn't sure if the transmitter was weatherproof. They confirmed that it was IP66 splash proof & recommend putting it in a ziplock bag if it is snowing or raining.

This will provide some serious competition for MEATER, I have a MEATER block and to be fair really like it and it has not let me down. Even the estimated cooking time is OK.

However it has shortcomings and from discussions with MEATER via their customer service they have appeared complacent on how their product can be improved. I would also imagine their prices will drop considerably too!

Looking forward to seeing real life reviews on the RFX.

The RTX iOS app was unstable and needs an overhaul. It's not very user friendly and doesn't really have any "wow" features that make using a wireless probe any more convenient than using a wired probe. Especially when the ambient probe still needs to be wired in. I can get the same info by just using the Traeger app and the wired probe that came with it. Some of the specs they announced during the pre-order changed during development. They must have also changed some after they had all of their product boxes made. Because the box also had stickers over some of the specs with new specs listed on top. None of them were improved specs.

When I had the Gateway inside my house, it stayed connected to WiFi no problem. But as soon as I took it outside onto my patio (concrete block house), it dropped/reconnected/dropped/reconnected/etc. even though it was still less than 10 feet away from an access point. I also tried leaving the Gateway inside and the Probe outside but it wouldn't hold a steady connection. I have my Traeger and a few other smart devices out there and they all stay connected to WiFi.

Guess I'll stick to the wired probe and thermapen/thermapop for now and hope there's a v2 down the road. Love all of my other Thermoworks products. This one just wasn't worth anywhere near the $159 price to me.
