Hey all…
Anybody used the thermapro RFX?
I want to get a wireless probe
System and thought I would
See opinions here
The reviews I’ve read are pretty good. Anybody used them?
Appreciate any input…Thanks

I have been using the ThermPro TP-088-2 for some time and have been very happy with it. Mine has dual probes and a clip for allowing one probe to be attached to the grill work. The transmitter has a wire stand that I hang over the edge of the pellet hopper and close the lid. Works well, no complaints.

Got one arriving Monday. I'll let you know if it works. I've got the wired probes from ThermoWORKS who make the RFX and they are great.

I've used other brands of wireless probes for years and they all have their limits, especially keeping connected and battery life. So far, the RFX seems to solve all the typical issues with the probes. I was an early adopter so I've had it for a couple of months and have already added another probe (Christmas gift!)

I like that they separated measuring ambient temp to another probe which provides more accurate cooker temps by moving the thermometer away from the meat. The RFX uses a wired thermometer to do that function now and it's more accurate. I'm fact, I found that my smoker temps were wildly off and ended up replacing my smoker's temp probe because of it.
And the probes are smaller, so they're easier to insert, and don't make huge holes in your protein.

The app works well but does take some getting used to, and could be better. I emailed ThermoWorks with suggestions and they responded positively, saying that updates were in the works. Their customer service has been great so far.

Another bonus with the RFX controller - you can control the Bellows fan with it if you add that to your arsenal.

So far, I'm loving the RFX system and highly recommend the investment.

Haven't used mine yet but set it up. Took a couple tries to pair the transmitter to my phone. Instructions aren't real easy to follow and written in tiny print. Looks like it will be much better than the Meater2 PLUS I bought last year.

Well I ended up getting a Typher
Gold 2 probe…will update
After a couple of cooks.
Hope it works as good as the
Reviews I’ve read and watched.

I’m in to my second cook after
Installing a lid thermometer and using the typher wireless thermometer and so far it’s looking good… baby back ribs…homemade rub… saucing with
Sweet baby Ray’s sweet/hot
At 1.5 hours…smoke tube with
Apple chips and pellets in the smoke tube… temperatures
Staying between 250 and 300
I’m gonna take off at198 and wrap
For rest and hope for the best!
Think adding thermostat in lid
Helps the temp average.
Typher working great

Don’t know how to post pictures
Yet… old fart tech challenged
Will try to learn 😎

Split ribs into 2 halves one on grill and one on upper shelf..smoke tube on grill rack…they look great
We’ll see!!

I ordered one and returned it. My sister has one and loves it. Here's my review from another thread:

The RTX iOS app was unstable and needs an overhaul. It's not very user friendly and doesn't really have any "wow" features that make using a wireless probe any more convenient than using a wired probe. Especially when the ambient probe still needs to be wired in. I can get the same info by just using the Traeger app and the wired probe that came with it. Some of the specs they announced during the pre-order changed during development. They must have also changed some after they had all of their product boxes made. Because the box also had stickers over some of the specs with new specs listed on top. None of them were improved specs.

When I had the Gateway inside my house, it stayed connected to WiFi no problem. But as soon as I took it outside onto my patio (concrete block house), it dropped/reconnected/dropped/reconnected/etc. even though it was still less than 10 feet away from an access point. I also tried leaving the Gateway inside and the Probe outside but it wouldn't hold a steady connection. I have my Traeger and a few other smart devices out there and they all stay connected to WiFi.

Guess I'll stick to the wired probe and thermapen/thermapop for now and hope there's a v2 down the road. Love all of my other Thermoworks products. This one just wasn't worth anywhere near the $159 price to me.

There seems to be some confusion among the names ThermoPro who makes the TempSpike and ThermoWorks who makes the RFX? There is no such thing as a ThermoPro RFX The RFX made by ThermoWorksis somewhat more expensive than the TempSpike. I have the ThermpPro Temp Spike and have been satisfied with it.

Current options include ThermoWorks, ThermoPro, InkBird, Meater and perhaps some Chinese competitors. Meater is now owned by Traeger.

Well I think the Typhur works
Great. Watching football all day
And watching the cook on the
Table next to my drink😄
My lid thermometer works great
Ambient temp within 5or8 degrees
Between lid and probes.
Next up…pork butt or meatloaf
