Who all has turkey duties this year? After last years Traeger success we were hit with "of course CMTiger will do the turkey again".

My wife brought home a frozen 13 pound Butterball yesterday. I will start thawing it several days before Thanksgiving. Several years ago, the weather was unseasonably warm in Northern Illinois so I cooked the turkey on my gas grill. Every year since then, it has been too cold and windy to do that. With the Traeger, even if temperatures are below freezing, I should still be able to get it done unless we have a blizzard. Normally, we do not get our first major snowfall until after Thanksgiving, so I am hopeful.

Down in Birmingham, it should be great weather for smoking the Thanksgiving turkey.

I got 3 in the freezer, at least 1,possibly 2 are going on the Traeger no question! I’m think one Cajun brine and one traeger orange brine! Cant wait!

We hosted last year, so it was straight off the 575, rest, slice and eat. This year I have to transport about 30-40 minutes. Any ideas? I’ve previously wrapped in tin foil, put in a yeti and transported without issue. Is there a better way??

The only other thing I might suggest is wrapping the turkey in a bath towel after you wrap it in foil. Once put in the Yeti, it should stay warm for hours. The trip will give it a nice rest.

Oh yeah…..I do that too. I seriously kept it in the yeti for 4+ hours a few years ago with this method and it was steaming when we unwrapped it

I did a spatchcock turkey on the Bronson last year. It has already been requested again. I’m happy to a oblige.

SWMBO does the turkey every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas day. I do the brining for 48 hours for 23+lb bird, but she handles the rest and she does a 3 bread stuffing with sage sausage, apples, & pecans that is to die for. YUM!

The only way I do the big bird is if the power is out, which happened one Christmas at her folks cabin in the Smokie Mountains.

The GrillMeister eats a bird from the oven?!? o_O

I have been married for nearly 50 years. Although my wife does most of the cooking, she has never cooked a turkey, ham, pork roast, beef roast, or steak in all those years. Ever since our first holiday together, I have been the one to cook any large pieces of protein. Normally, winter holiday meats have been roasted in the oven, but I am looking forward to doing them on the Traeger.

My wife will probably do the side dishes unless I try doing them on the Traeger.

I am thinking of bucking our traditional turkey and just going with a ham in the Traeger. I have never done a ham this way so I'll have to look around for "best practices" I guess.

Wow I’m glad I read this, I’m doing my 1st turkey or 2 on my 575. I have to travel 2 hours. Once done I didn’t know how to transport. Didn’t know a yeti or a cam box will work. Will the skin become rubbery or soggy due to the steam? How to prevent that if it does.
