Stabilizing the temp

I’ve only done one cook so far but the required temperature was 275. During preheat it went to 330 or 360. I figured it would take forever to come back down so I opened the lid to help it along. Next cook will start at 225. We’ll see.

So far we have Timberlines and Ironwoods with "strangeness" when IGNITING@275 that does not seem to happen at other initial temp settings ... any PRO 575/780 owner's experiencing the same thing?

So not exactly a valid test but I started up the grill, set the temp to 225 and hit “Ignite “. The screen read “software update in progress do not power down. Grill will reset “. The fan starts, pellets ignited, smoke generated. Twenty or thirty minutes go by. Finally called CS and was told to shut down, unplug the unit and restart. I thought I read there’s a fire hazard when doing that but tried anyway. I reentered the temperature setting and off it went like nothing happened. But it did overshoot to 260 so I opened the lid and all went well. By the way, firmware is now 2.01.03, v06.008.

My Pro 575 does this sometimes. It only started in the past two months or so. It will soar past my target temp before eventually leveling out. I dont trust my memory enough to say it is exclusively when my target is 275, but it has definitely happened most often at 275.

I've tried bumping the target temp down five degrees and also opening the lid to help it get back down to the target. It has always straightened out fairly quickly for me so far.

mine did the same thing... what's it doing up in the 200s when it's set at 180... my 225 was at 250 steady for 20 minutes, turn it down to 180, stayed at 250... WT???
The Pro 22 has that feature, ask Traeger for a new controller, fixed mine for a while.

My Pro 575 has never had this problem. If I set 250 as the target the most it will go over is 5-10F. All my cooks are within 10F +/- all the time of the cook.

Thanks - the other grill lines were only experiencing this issue when selecting 275 as the temp prior to hitting IGNITE (it was not reproducible at 270 or 280) ... I usually IGNITE at a different temp (dependent on the protein), but was unable to reproduce the issue on my last grilling session ... I will try again this upcoming week ...

My pro575 preheated temp set to 500. It went all the way to 530. Then it settled down after that. It just started doing this.

My mistake it took off to 535 again after. Then it would drop to 500. I cleaned the temp sensor. Same thing. I seemed to happen after I lost connection one day on the app. I really wish traeger could stop messing with things. It was working fine.

I wouldn't worry about it. Check that your probe inside the 575 is clean before each use. If it didn't stay long at 530 it should be ok. But if it constantly goes over your set temp then that is another problem.
I must admit I don't go near 500. If I want to sear I will use my BBQ plate, just as good and a hell lot less pellets used.
