Pellet Grill test Mad Scientist

Here is a pretty fair review of the Weber SmokeFire
No other pellet cooker in the market is a grill. The Smokefire is truly unique. The grease fire issue is total crap and is not more likely than any other except for the fact that people don’t grill as often on all the other brands because they are not good at grilling. Grease on a pan above the heat source is a far worse design than grease below the heat source. Even if is mixed with dust. Get a Smokefire to even 500 and stick you hand in the barrel. It’s way hotter than other pellet cookers because it’s quasi direct heat as opposed to the indirect oven effect you get from all the competitors. It’s night and day. 600 degrees is a beast.
The pellet lid isn’t paint it’s enamel and it does get funky but is easily cleaned because it’s enamel.
By far the easiest to clean on the market
Take out the stupid finger guard and use the proper pellets and it’s no problem there.
Once the software issue were resolved over a year ago, issues like not getting to 600 went away. I’ve used the other cooker he mentioned and I’m here to tell you it’s not even apples to apples. Different league all together.
The guy Jeremy Yoder spoke to is preaching the gospel. Don’t overlook the fact that the bbq is superior than the others. This is partially due to the extra ash and quirks people think are drawbacks but in reality are designed to create a better smoke profile environment. For instance I hear about not keeping constant temps. Truth is constant temps reduce smoke profiles. You need some fluctuations. People just need to overcome their preconceived notions of what is “good” as far as design and operation. The proof is in the results. Sorry to ramble on. Some of what’s said here is accurate but it doesn’t really tell the whole story imo. Just my opinion

my word how long did he run the grill to get that much dust?

You know what looks to be the most annoying part of the Smokefire to me? That pellet hopper. Long, skinny and on the backside of the grill. I think solution is to just get a scoop and not try and poor from the bucket, which maybe one should do anyway, but it’s a bit of an inconvenient location Eden is there is a reason for its placement

I just can’t imagine that happened in any sort of reasonable time that would allow for you to blame weber for that buildup

Good review. I can see he actually like the grill to have both generations. I am sure there is a solution to address the grill / dust and perhaps minimize it. The whole fam blowing direction should be reviewed further as part of the solution.

pits similar to the Memphis. That’s due to the rear feed which dramatically shortens the auger and the path the pellets have to take to the pot. It’s not a big deal. Cut the corner of the bag and you have a natural spout. It is something people have to make an adjustment to though. 🤷🏼‍♂️

there is dust blowing in the cooker but it again is a non issue. There are some things which are different and Revolutionary really about the Smokefire. The fact it’s different makes some people think it’s a problem when it’s not. All that dust down there doesn’t bother the cooker a bit. If it did he would have cleaned it up. It’s easier to clean to cuz you just scrape the stuff down the holes into the drawer. No big deflector shield to remove just a few smaller parts. Simple

If you sift your pellets then the bad corner trick wouldn’t work. “Not a big deal” is a relative term. It’s not a deal breaker or anything I wouldn’t think but it looks like it would be annoying. Like I said though, just adjust to using a scoop and that would help. Either way it’s not as easy to get to our fill as something like a Traeger

That is for sure. I don’t sift so no big deal. It is definitely not as easy as a traditional side mounted hopper. It’s also higher to reach up which is a challenge for shorter folks as well. Like you said probably not a deal breaker.

Like I said before though it will not be for everybody. Nothing is.
