Pellet chat

Guys,
I been a 20 year charcoal user and got my 1st Traeger a few weeks back. I got a pro575 and love it.

The ? I have is I have used oak, maple, plum, and apple and competition blend. Idk if I'm just so used to the charcoal tasted but I'm not tasting a difference between all of them. I have used traeger pellets and the competition is pit boss.

I'm just thinking of mixing all of them and just using them together
What meat are you cooking? If chicken, the smoke flavor is stronger and you should taste it. If steak, i agree.. the smoke does not dig into the meat.

I found to taste a difference, only by 100% of the flavor you want. Pellets that're 100% hardwoods (blends) have 50-80% of a standard base. This is to help with similar burns with different flavors.

Anyone mix their own blend? I was going to mix hickory maple and apple and charcoal soon
I’ve been mixing my Traeger pellets in with my Furtado Farms pellets just to get rid of them. I’m only mixing in about 10%. Once that bag is done, my Traeger will never see Traeger pellets again.

Might want to watch.

I am narrowing down to having just a couple different woods from Furtado Farms. Hickory, maple and cherry so far.
I do like the Green Mountain Grill texad blend pellets as well.
I think I have tried every wood pellet that Furtado Farms makes

Might want to watch.
Interesting video. One issue I had with Traeger brand was the dust. I had a brisket flame out after 10 hours, and I’m sure it was due to excess dust. I sift all of my pellets now. Also I’m not a fan of the manufacturing process of Traeger, I prefer a more natural pellet.

What Traeger pellets are made of does it for me... I'm perfectly happy without them in my cooks.

US Patent 7517371

They are 100% natural hardwood pellets with no bark.

It never ceases to amaze me how easily people are influenced to believe internet troll talking points. 🤣 To each their own, but it’s tragic when people believe lies. Your statements are a perfect example of that. 👍🏻

@JPSBBQ, do you not realize that someone is entitled to their opinion. Just as you are. Doesn't make either right or wrong. Personal choice is selective.
Use what you like, use what you want. If it tastes good to who is cooking it, then that is the right thing to do.
Your post above seems to state someone is influenced by something that you can not possibly know about with that person.
Even in this video below Jeremy discusses the contents on different pellets.
If what he stated wasn't correct, I'd suspect there would be a lawsuit filed.
In the end, what Jeremy says right in the final minutes is correct, use what works for you.]

Yep, he is wrong. He even stated he didn’t know what he was talking about then commenced talking about it. He’s flat wrong. Also you might want to watch the subsequent videos with the guy who knows more than him where he kind of subtlety cleans up his erroneous statements. Thirdly, the blind taste test totally embarrassed him by exposing his preconceived bias as it would for many people. I totally agree with you about subjective taste and using whatever you want. I totally disagree with allowing complete falsehoods about particular brands to be propagated. This is a problem on the internet and when it’s allowed to go unchallenged it’s bad for everyone. The video you link is full of false information and it’s subjective conclusions are totally destroyed by his subsequent video. I give him credit for posting the subsequent video because it is very embarrassing for him. However, even though he posted it he tried a little bit to round off the sharpness of his embarrassment. If you spout off about falsehoods regarding Traeger pellets I’m absolutely gonna point out you’ve been brainwashed by internet trolling. There is no other way around it. Heck it’s obvious that this Jeremy guy has been duped just like tons of other people. His cohost in the subsequent video corrects him in how they are made and what makes them up. He also gets corrected on their performance. It was truly humbling for him and he even said so. There is a difference with some brands leaving the bark on their wood when making their pellets. Some would argue that is better and some worse. It does make them less efficient and more ash producing. It also produces a heavier smoke profile which some but not all prefer. Those sorta things are subjective but what is not is inaccurate information about how certain pellets are made. At some point people are willfully ignorant if they refuse to except the truth. Just saying.

When I sift my pellets the Traeger signature brand has significantly more dust than the bear mountain brand. Tons more. These were Traeger signature brands delivered directly from Traeger. I also got a bd of their limited edition turkey pellet (can’t remember actual name) and they do the same. Maybe that isn’t a problem? Maybe that isnt a manufacturing problem but one of transport? Idk. But it’s a thing.

I would also think a group of olds whom love their Traeger enough to post about them on here daily would be less likely to be duped by Jeremy Yoder, but maybe not. But his overall distaste for pellet grills hasn’t swayed us.

While I found the most recent video funny because of his previous ones I do not think it hurts his credibility. Not posting the video/results would, but challenging yourself and your current beliefs is a strength and not a weakness. FYI this isn’t the first blind taste test video yoder has posted where he’s went up against a Traeger and lost.

FWIW the other guy whom you’re seemingly giving way more cred to (?) doesn’t seem to be to high on Traeger pellets either.

Agreed.

@JPSBBQ
I was not debating the validity of the blind taste test, nor the opinions on the first video. One could argue that blind taste tests are great references, but without a more complex study, it is just a reference of personal choice which may or may nor be predicated by regional tastes (Kansas City BBQ vs. Texas come to mind). But again, either would back up my statement on being a personal choice.
What I was referring to in my initial reply was how you seemed to suggest @FireTechMike had based his opinion off of internet trolls and possibly some online video reviews with misinformation that didn't align with what you feel.
He stated flameout, which may or may not be from excessive dust, but it is plausible. The other was a reference to how the pellets are made. We have the patent to go off of for that. But whether that method is still used or not, we don't know.
From the way you replied to that it seemed like you assumed he made his decision solely on misinformation on the internet. To me, it appeared it was more relative to his observations and thoughts.
If I am incorrect, I apologize for my assumption.

Yeah, you contribute to the internet misinformation. Wittingly or unwittingly.

I don’t care what pellets anyone wants to use. There is only one way people get these stupid ideas about how Traeger pellets are made or what is in them. That’s internet troll BS. Either directly or indirectly through the propagation of the falsehoods. They are at least as good a product as anything out there. Again I don’t care if you choose to use them but should stop the misinformation. 🤷🏼‍♂️
