I just bought a 870 about a week ago and wanted to know is it just me or does this unit not put out much smoke. Let me guess I am going to have to buy some kind of upgrade?

I tend to believe that people buy Traeger (or pellet grills in general) and equate them with "smokers" but they really aren't the same "tool". To maximize the smoke you need to burn lower than 225 otherwise the fire is too efficient and won't produce much smoke. Basically the grill is a very nice, woodfired convection oven, especially at higher temps.
I really like my Pro 780 and the flavor of the foods I'm cooking. My daughter got me this grill for Christmas and I joke that this is the best gift she has ever gotten her mom because I have done most of the cooking lately!
I am still new to this whole pellet thing so I am sure others with more experience can chime in with a better response.
