My father has high-graded (stolen) the Brazilian nuts out of mixed nuts since time immemorial. As a natural result, I can't eat mixed nuts without copying him and eating all the Brazilian nuts like they are the most precious commodity in the world.

I provided two briskets at a family party a week ago, and while serving everyone brisket I was discreetly cutting off the burnt ends and enjoying them for myself -- but OH NO, my father picked up on that behavior on the first one and proceeded to steal at least half of my fairly appropriated burnt ends the moment they were available.

We were like two squabbling hawks that both wanted the choice bits.

When I do stuff like that and someone complains, I just tell them: "Cook's prerogative."

Me along with a couple buddies have cooked well over 100 hogs the last 20 years or so for various events, benefits, etc. You can bet we get the best bite as we are pulling it and panning it. Always too full to make a plate by the time we are done.
