Ironwood Front Shelf DO you really need it?

Recently purchased a Ironwood 650 and curious to see if anyone else purchased the front shelf.
Did some cooks already and I use the side shelf or place a tray on top of the hopper.
Prob would be great when doing a brisket or Pulled pork something a little heavier. What are your thoughts?
Purchased the tray with the Ironwood 650. Had one on my Pro22 before and found it very useful so added it to the Ironwood. Would recommend.

Just to confirm, Ironwood 650 uses the BAC362 shelf?
I also saw a site showing the BAC563 fitting. Not sure what the difference is between them. I do like the idea of a front shelf if its a usable depth. Currently making due with the side shelf, but will probably add the front this summer
Peter at Vines to Wines in Mill Bay probably has one in stock.

You hit the nail on the head! I have the same grill and got the shelf since I had found it useful for heavier briskets and butts on my older Pro 22. The shelf lets you just slide the meat out quickly and securely with little chance of dropping.

I’ve got one on my ironwood 885. I use it, I like it. It does not stay level, but that’s kind of a minor annoyance and the convenience overrides the annoyance.

High temp loctite on the black screws that secure the brackets to the grill (y) Had the same problem

Have the front shelf for both my Ironwood and Pro. Must have in my opinion.

As mentioned, doesn't stay level, both mine always seem to be pitched down about 3-4 degrees, no amount of readjusting will keep them level. Still a necessary accessory.

If I had to give up any accessory this one would be the last.

Bah, I'm in Canada, see like $50+ everywhere. Which Loctite are you using?
The 272 is for temps of 450, the rest seem to only be for 300 degrees. I might just use some blue that we have if that doesn't work will move it up to the red. Blue for bolts that you might want to remove. Red is for a more permanent bond.

There's some wiggle room on my shelf brackets that go to the grill. I can adjust the pitch of the shelf based on those. My problem was the screws kept backing out would cause the shelf to slightly drop. Since putting on some loctite and torquing them down, no more issues after many cooks. I think the heat from the cooks and direct FL sunlight on black would cause them to expand and back out.

Picked up the folding shelf. Tried some blue loctite to see if it sits firm.
I also built a bottom shelf from about $7.00 in materials. Nothing fancy but serves a purpose. Now I have a spot for my grillgrates.
