initial thoughts on fireboard 2

When I came home today I was greeted by packages with the FireBoard, holder and competition probes and the Thermaworks probe spools. This looks really good. Unfortunately, I have to wait till the weekend to test it. I'm jealous of everyone here who are able to cook during the week!

I do have a question. Is there a way to turn off the FireBoard or is it on all the time? I disconnected the ambient probe after testing it, but cannot see a way to switch off the screen.

Push a side button until the menu pops up, then press the "Power Off" button (top).

I always have trouble getting mine turned off.

Don’t push the power off button for to long, the FB seems to get confused…

Thanks for the warning!

I have read that some of you store the FireBoard and the probes outside on the grill. After spending so much for them I'm nervous about leaving them to the elements outside. Maybe I'll get accustomed to that with time.

The FB buttons seem to be a little sensitive. As I've been playing with my new FB, it would frequently skip a channel when I would try to select the next one. If I was really careful and quickly tapped the button, it was usually fine.

I think you will find after the new wears off, that the only thing you will use the buttons for on the FB, is to turn it off, and on.
Selecting channels is much faster via the app.

I'm sure you're right. I'm not too worried about it, since it seemed to be just a matter of muscle training. I was testing the probes and the channels to confirm that their QA did an acceptable job and I kept finding myself having to cycle through all the channels again, because my single press got interpreted as two. It's not something I'm likely to do again.

I store my FB, IR gun and MK4 in the Kitchen, everything else is either under the cover or in the shed.
when I am cooking I use an old meat tray to cover the FB or in late afternoon I move the FB to the cutting board on the hopper so that it stays in the shade...

What IR gun do you have? I need to get one
