IM ABOUT DONE WITH THIS THING

Yes, and it will handle up to six probes at the same time, gives you a graph display, let’s you record all of your Cooke with pics and notes. I always use an ambient FireBoard probe when I run any smoker, and set the temp according to what it says. I still have 5 remaining probe slots for any protein or sides

I have used pellets from Lowe’s before and seemed better as well. I put a manual grill thermometer in the lid and there is a HUGE difference in temp readings. Crazy.
Manual thermometer shows 300°
Treager shows 227°
They need to figure that out.
73° difference is nuts.
If you put it in the wrong place, you are measure direct heat coming up from the fire pot to heat the grill area. So yes it could be that far off. A picture or the grill would help.

I have had it with this damn grill.
I can not get the temp to be consistent nor get to the setting it is meant to be at.
it’s July 4th and I was supposed to cook a brisket. Well looks like the oven will have to cook it because this damn thing won’t get it right.
I have owned it since 2014 and every dang time I need it for an occasion it screws me.
I have replaced the controller and temp sensor and still not worth a crap.
I have new pelleted I orders from Treager. Still not right.
the new controller doesn’t have a P adjustable button so I can not set the rate anymore I guess.
If you can lend an idea great. If not it goes to the trash and I get a PIT BOSS like my neighbor that never has an issue.
thanks.
I totally agree with the temp settings. I set the temp a few days ago at 225. It never hit 225. It stopped at 208, 208, 210. Never hit 225. I had to crank it to 250. It then reached 225 and kept going until it stopped at 237. I have the Pro Series 34. My brother has the smaller version of mine and he has the same problem. Pretty sad considering I paid $700 for it. I'm 100% convinced it has to do with the thickness of the steel. Mine is probably 1/8"-1/4 thick. Not sure. I guarantee the WiFi versions, which have thicker steel or any other pellet grill with thicker steel, doesn't have this problem

Thicker or thinner steel wouldn’t prevent it from coming to the correct temp, especially at such low temperature settings, and in the summer.
Have you ever checked the temp with an accurate third party probe?

When you say not consistent, does that mean 5, 10, 20,? How far off is set temp?
Have you verified the actual pit temp with an ACCURATE thermometer, so that you know what it is really doing?
FYI, Traeger pellets are 💩, and can cause problems.
So I gave it another try this weekend with about the same results. I can confirm that the temp on the grill itself matched the temp on an external probe the whole time with a variance of about 5 degrees. That's where the good news ends. About 45 m9ins in the pit starts losing temp again all the way down to around 100 degrees and then once it recovers it's like a furnace and spikes to 370 degrees before settling back down eventually to around 220. Fortunately while all of this was going on I just had sausages on the grill.

I’m confused… I looked back at the reply’s in this thread, and I’m sorry but I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about..

Sorry. We were talking last week about a similar issue with my Junior Elite. I'm still getting the hang of this posting stuff.

Let me look at your posts, find the thread, help you there. Much less confusing

This thread reflects my experience with the CostCo Century 885. I gave up and got a full refund from CostCo and acquired a Yoder 640S on their competition base for easy maneuvering. Same base money as a Traeger 1300 but weighs twice as much with US steel vs Chinese. The Fireboard controller interfaces with the six probe Fireboard app and all nine probes display on one screen.

The Yoder fire pot is on the left with the chimney on the right. The Traeger fire pot is in the middle which really defies thermodynamics.

I paid my money for a Traeger and changed my mind after too much hassle. Traeger works for some folks. I was not a member of that group.

I sympathize with your frustrations.
I have a question for you. How well does the door seal to the oven?
As a trouble shooter for automotive, even a small air leak near a temp sensor, will throw out the reading it collects.
If cooler air leaks in, and hits the sensor, this will cause the D2 controller to add fuel. and take awy fuel, if hot air hits the sensor.
if the door seals poorly, I have read on the site, about hight temp gasket material for bbq and smokers.
Good luck

I've seen many people report more stable temps after applying LavaLock to the lid.

EDIT: I should clarify that these were Pro and Ironwood owners, since the Timberline series already has a gasket.

Hi, my 2 cents worth. I am a stickler for cleaning the pit probe, it has to be back to shiny to get an accurate temp. That temp will always be out and that is why we rely on our own probes and set the temp to that. You could do some testing with a good probe, but not on the bottom shelf, try different spots and compare it to the Traeger temp.

Hey Robob69 I am new to Traeger but was having the opposite issue, to hot . Did some reading and found a few things.
Keep the fire box clean (q16 hours, not the recommended 20). Recalibrate the probe to a large glass of ice water (lots of ice) let it sit for at least 3-5 minutes, to get the water as close to freezing as possible.
You can also run the pellets thru a screen to get rid of the dust and the troubled small pieces the can jam your auger.
Control the breeze / wind around your smoker,

Hope it works for you, with a few small tweaks, I am really enjoying my Traeger

Is that a digital thermometer?
Yup. Fireboard 2 is pretty much the standard for thermometers these days. Digital, and very accurate, plus it gives you 6 ports for probes and keeps track of your cooks. I'm pretty new to it, but I love that I can see what temps I cooked my brisket at and how the grill performed throughout, especially on long cooks like brisket.
