I just destroyed my Traeger before I cooked anything...

Consider yourself lucky.
I've been working with Traeger support for over six months, trying to get my wifire working. All I've received from them so far is a runaround.
How do you give them a call. I was texting with Traeger about my problem and they could not even find my model grill (Ranger) even though I gave them the model number off the ticket. They said they were Traeger Customer Service.

HOW DO YOU TALK WITHE A HUMAN BEING AT TRAEGER. DO THEY HAVE THEM?

Just call the 800# on their website. I spoke to a human (and am getting some replacement parts for my brand new Pro Series 34 that was damaged during shipping). I only had to wait on hold for 20 minutes or so. They are open until 9pm EDT every day of the week.

EDIT: To make this easy, the number is at https://www.traegergrills.com/support/contact-us. It's 1-800-TRAEGER (872-3437).

My new Traeger included assembly and delivery so I knew nothing about the piece now known as the RTD. I must have banged it with either cook grate or heat diffuser plate during cleaning because the small ceramic tip is broken and just a little wire tip sticks out. I read here about good customer service experiences so I called. The Traeger rep had me take a photo with my phone for his file and agreed to send out a replacement at no cost. A small protective piece should cover this rtd. Love this grill.

Yup! You read that right. I just destroyed my Traeger 575 Pro (I think). Out of sheer excitement, I got home and saw the box waiting on me. I couldn't wait to put the thing together. I unpacked everything, started my assembly and within 30 minutes it was complete! I started looking online for my next steps, and saw the "Season your Traeger" video. I opened up the video on YouTube and started following the steps. About an hour later, the app sent me a message saying that my timer was finished. I started the shutdown cycle, and once it finished I opened the lid to the grill. That's when I noticed it, staring right at me, mocking me. I didn't take off the protective cover on the internal temperature probe inside the grill. I pulled on it, and to my surprise it came off, but pulled out the 2 wires and a portion of the tip came off as well (In my defense, there was NOTHING on the instructions that said take off the orange plastic thingy covering the thermometer). Of course all this happens after Traeger is closed, so I scoured the internet for advice, replacement parts, and others that shamefully committed the same atrocious mistake I did, but found nothing in all 3 of the categories I listed above.

Has anyone made this idiotic mistake? Did it end up costing anything or did the warranty cover it? Did you have to replace the entire D2 assembly, or just the thermometer.

Please feel free to laugh at my situation and call me names. I feel as dumb as you think I am. Thanks in advance.

I did exactly the same thing, except I saw the sticker that said remove so I removed the sticker. D’uh! I’ve cooked twice on it and am guessing it was working but I‘ll have to use another thermometer to verify temperature is as displayed.

Use another thermometer anyway... especially on long cooks
OH and BTW, Welcome to the Site!!!

My Pro 22 superheated on smoke mode. The grill is only a month old. It was on for about 10 minutes. The temp was at 379 degrees ! The Auger was pumping in pellets non stop. Something seriously malfunctioned. I put in a warranty claim direct with Traeger. Its been a week since I put in the claim. I waited patiently but finally had to call back. The claims rep at the factory said she was busy this past week and apologized for the delay. She has to get with the technical department to go over the issue and find out what to do ... Meanwhile I am not using the smoker and still waiting patiently ...

I just did the same thing but the thermocouple appears to be working. I have attached a photo below of what it looks like. Is this normal ? I have a new Pro 780.

Just spoke with Traeger Support and the looked at the photo and said it looked ok. I am grilling right now and it seems to be working fine.

My instructions said be sure to take that off

Easy enough to verify!
Just verify the internal temp with a known accurate pit probe. The ambient probe in question is not known to be accurate anyway, so most of us here don’t rely on it to set our pit temps by. As long as the stock ambient probe maintains a temp near your set point, it should be OK.

Oh, and beware of the Traeger meat probe….Not accurate at all, even if you bother to calibrate it..

Take James' advice Hampsong, you will need to verify what TRUE internal temp your grill is running at before you RUIN any meat relying on it.
