Pro 22 (factory cover, welder's blanket for winter cooks), Weber Genesis, lots of temp probes and various other gizmos, thingamajigs, and a beer cooler.
I'm new to the Pro 22. In the past I've found l grils/smokers with rectangular cooking areas have one region that is a hot spot. Has anyone zeroed in on a hot spot for either the Pro 22 or the newer 575 (same layout)?

There will always be some minor temperature variations. However, since the Traegers have a fan to circulate air and the heat source is located at the center bottom of the grill, you won't get as much variation as you would with an offset smoker.

The only way to tell how your specific grill operates is to purchase a 3rd party thermometer which you can then move around to look for temperature variations. You are likely to find that the 3rd party thermometer differs from what the Traeger controller says. Just set the controller to give you the cook temperature you want inside the cook chamber.

I have found my Pro 22 to have a hot spot near the chimney area. That's probably a function of how the air is flowing from the firepot below. I hope this helps.

Rocketman - Thanks, that's the type of info I was looking for. Since posting the question, I smoked a single rack of side ribs and came to the same conclusion.
