Help with Beef ribs please

Ya I got ripped off! The only thing Traeger owes my is a GD grill that does what they say its supposed to do. As far as the computer, they should have had way more R&D before releasing them. They could have saved a ton of $ by keeping them made in the U.S., right now if there's an issue they throw a new controller at it. If I could do it over, I'd have spent $900+ on a real nice stick burner.
It would have been great, if they had contracted FireBoard or Thermoworks for their controllers...

Yoder grill uses Fireboard for their controllers.
It is definitely an area Traeger needs to improve on
I'm just waiting until...
1. Fireboard adds an auger drive to the drive mode.
2. Yoder makes a direct replacement for the Traeger D2 controllers.

Remember, especially when cooking low and slow instructions like "20mins. at 350f" go out the window. It's done when it's done. Measuring the internal temp is good for keeping track of where you are in the cook and helps in guestimating when it's done but only probing will tell you when you've reached the degree of tenderness you're going for. 95C (203F) sounds like a good target temp and many times it's right on but there is no guarantee. Regarding thermometers, the maverick ET732 has worked great for me. The Meater probe is my new favorite because it's so easy to use and very accurate.

Never looked at The Meater probe, but just did. That is really nice. I think I will order one tonight. Was looking at the the Meater+ or maybe even the Meater block.

Still fine with the factory probes on my Traeger, but what I love about these is there is no cable. I hate dealing with the probe wires.

Going to read some reviews on both. Really like the idea of multiple probes on the Block but would rather use my smartphone. Also the first few reviews I read on the Block were not very positive.

I didn’t like the Meater because the probes are so thick, plus the ambient part of the probe is not accurate, because it’s to close to the meat and is cooled, especially if it is placed on top.
Ask @Slimpicker, I’m pretty sure that he has a Meater and a FireBoard...

I have fireboard and 2 Meaters
And YES the Ambient part is not the best and YES they are thick, but they are good to use in large cuts ... GM uses them a lot in briskets and they are wireless which at times is cool.

Meater APP works great

Lol, this is where I will be over complicating my grilling hobby.

I am a sucker for expensive accessories. I have plenty of fails in the guest house storage, never to be used again. Latest one was the Weber Connect. $130 for crap, that even after a year and countless updates doesn't work properly.

The Meater idea being wireless is really a plus to me and has got my interest. Is this something that could and would be used regularly without too much extra effort. Understand I always use the factory probe on the Traeger. An iGrill 2 on the Weber Kettle and iGrill 2 on the Summit.

I really think the wireless probes will be a huge plus for me. Stop me if I'm over enthusiastic about this feather. The only reason I want to buy them.

Fireboard never really looked hard at that. Is it basically a super accurate probe with a display? Is there more to this tech?

I use my meater alot. It’s very simple and has been very accurate with meat temperature. The ambient temperature isn’t that important to me as long as I can monitor the meat. I love not dealing with wires. Make sure to get the plus with wifi.

I like the idea of the wireless connectivity, but the thick probes are a deal breaker for me. IMO, lots of things where a thick probe just won’t work well. Plus the fact that the ambient part is not very reliable.

Yes, the FireBoard does have a display, but I never use it. The app has much more info, you can even send a link of your cooks to anyone, and they can follow along in real time..All of your cooks, including any notes or pic can be recalled from the app or the website.
If you get the Meater or the FireBoard, you won’t need the Traeger probe.

The Fireboard has ports for 6 probes in any combo you want, (ambient/meat). It also has capability to control a fireboard fan that you can put on a smoker, ie BGE, offset, etc.. You can also name the probes and the session, add pictures and notes. And view past sessions for reference. You can also monitor more than 1 cooker if set close to each other, and probe extension are available. Plus the probes have wires, so you won't loose them as easily.

Well, Meater has it's place. Obviously if one owns a FireBoard first, then why ever need a Meater, Fireboard does it all!! 👌
I like the Meater in my meatloaf, I actually think the thick touches more meat in a loaf.
Meater is also good in a meat you might be 'flipping' cuz you won't have the wire in the way.

It's a cheap but good accurate probe and a great App.

👍

Well, I went ahead and ordered the Meater Block. Now I'm looking at the Fireboard, but think I will hold off until I feel like getting more complex.

LOL, so glad that the wife got use to it years ago. She has her moments though, especially when I take my truck out on a Saturday. I can hear her now "Paul, we don't need anymore, grills, guns, table saws, flat screens, speakers, chainsaws, motorized vehicles of any kind...You already have X <insert toy> and you can only use one at a time...blah blah blah blah blah"
