Grill Grates (for searing)?

I just picked up a set of 3 panels, can’t wait. Question though. I want to make it easy for my wife to throw a couple burgers onto our new traeger, so I got these. If I leave them on 24/7, would that negatively effect any low and slow smokes I do? I don’t really want the grates to keep the average temp of the grill up so much that less pellets are burned, which means less smoke. Would it be better for me to take them off whenever doing low and slow smokes? Thanks!

I have grill grates for my Timberline 1300, Pitts and Spitts Maverick 2000, and my Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill. They enable your cooker to achieve the higher temperatures needed to create nice sear marks on steaks, chicken and chops.

I'd take them off, they will just get dirty with low and slow.
I agree....I only have them on when I need to do searing. Enjoy!

So question for the folks: Instead of grill grates for searing has anyone used a cast iron griddle? Lodge has a nice one that is two sided (flat and grates).

On my portable Weber Go-Anywhere grill, Grill Grates are all I use.

I use that griddle quite a bit on my gasser.
It’s perfect for frying protein like sausage, bacon, etc, and prevents a big spatter mess to clean up in the kitchen...
Makes the wife happy 😬
I use it on the Traeger also, but not for searing. Pretty sure it would work for that though
