Grate in pellet hopper

I took mine out, it's in the way and probably put there to protect the manufacturer and us from ourselves. I made the best brisket of my life this weekend. Followed the guide, actually cooked with the GRILLGUIDE. Couldn't have been easier or better! Of course my secret is the coffee rub I use on all my briskets.
PS - my new probe is as bad as the one they replaced - low by 20 -25 degrees. With such a great BBQ, you'd think they could get the probe right.
I use a meater probe..best damn thing I ever bought.

Removed my rediculous 'safety grate', eliminated pellet starving of the auger system. No need for silicon, or waxing. The auger moves at such a slow rate, you'd have to be a turtle to get a finger caught in it... Or win a Darwin Award... Don't put hand in box, don't lose fingers. Next up, vertical hopper extender for the 10-18 hour slow and lows. Got this smoker/grill for nearly free, hand me down of sorts. :) Well worth the effort, flavor, and costs of discount bags of food grade/bbq/smoke pellets (damaged or discounted).

It's there for one reason only.
