FireBoard Pulse

I don't have a Spark, so I can't comment on it's communication and connection through that
Spark works pretty good with signal relay

Where's my discount???
That one thing they don’t give is a discount. They are into buy one get stuff. Although I’m workin on it.

The pulse has no problem in the sous vide or submerged in water. I used it to precook our prime rib and that portion worked flawlessly.
So am i to understand you put that whole Christmas Prime Rib in SousVide with a Pulse inside the bag?

What temp for how long then what did you do?

Yes, I did kind of a reverse sear idea. In the sous vide at 126° set for 12 hours, left for 10 hours actual (which was 4 hours at temperature for the meat in total). Then it was put in the fridge overnight. Back onto the smoker set at 225°F until it hit 118°F. Then into a 500°F oven for a quick 10 minutes to sear the outside. Rested and served.

The finished internal temperature was 133°F after the 30 minute rest

*although the pulse is tested and rated to IP67, it isn't recommended to be used inside a bag submerged in water. While I don't see how any water can affect anything as long as probe placement inside the bag keeps it out of any pooling liquid inside the bag, it shouldn't be an issue. That's why they think my temperatures were different between the app and FireBoard unit and why it was out by 2° from actual temperature. Fair enough, but from the videos online showing usage of these, I wouldn't think that method would be an issue.
They are replacing my probe under warranty. Which was a nice gesture, as I wasn't asking for that or expecting that. Was just looking for direction regarding the temperature reading difference.
Thought I'd mention FB stance on using it in this method.

I would not have thought 2° was a big deal... from their standpoint.

The only way to read the unit is with the APP? I'm missing this meaning here... sorry

you mean the Pulse was reading diff than the Sous Vide unit? I'd probably expect that from mine cuz I only have an Inkbird

BTW, howz the vacation going?

The pulse can connect to the app on your phone via Bluetooth directly, or you can connect through the FireBoard unit, Spark, or any FireBoard driven smoker. They all connect via Bluetooth to the pulse. This extends your range because those units are connected to Wi-Fi.
I think the disconnect with readings is between the FireBoard drive unit and the app. Those should have been the same. The external basically was 123.8 on the app and 124 on the FB unit. The internal was showing 125 on the drive unit and 123.8 on the app. The 2° isn't bad, and can be adjusted with setting an offset on the app for the probe ports. The only issue with that is remembering to clear it for that port when you use a different probe. I haven't had any issues with temperature readings on any of the probes I have from them, this was a first.
When I get the replacement, I will test it in a different setting to see if the app and the FB unit it and my Yoder show the same temperatures.
Not really a vacation right now, just used up some holiday days from 2024 between Christmas and New Years. Mexico was the beginning of December for a week, and that was great. Now I have to wait until the next trip down there, which will be coming soon.

RustyJake, thanks for the review. I have been holding off until I seem some reviews but I may go ahead with the purchase. Here is a question for you: did you get the S1G antenna? Is that really needed?

I didn't get that antenna, connection through the Yoder or FB unit seem to work fine for me. Placement of the probe will typically be in close proximity of either of those, so I didn't feel i needed it
