Favorite BBQ Sauce?

Sweet Baby Ray's but I just picked up some Traeger Apricot BBQ sauce. Anxious to try it.
I cannot imagine not absolutely loving the Traeger Apricot sauce it’s especially great on chicken. Magical!

My fam absolutely loves it on baby backs. My daughter even makes sure we have some when I’m cookin!🤣

Sweet Baby Ray's original sauce was developed by Chef Larry, the brother of Dave Raymond. Dave also owned two restaurants in the Chicago area. One of those restaurants was closed in July after 16 years of operation. The co-owner of the restaurant retired. I have eaten there on several occasions. The BBQ sauce is now produced by Ken's Foods after they purchased the private company that made it previously. Although I like Sweet Baby Ray's sauce, it is a little too sweet for my taste. I grew up in Virginia, where less sweet sauces were more common.

I recently picked Lillie's Q Carolina BBQ sauce as my favorite. The Lillie's sauces were named in honor of Chef Charlie McKenna's grandmother Lillie. He grew up in South Carolina, but after culinary school, worked in two four-star restaurants in Chicago. He now runs his own restaurant in Chicago. He has won two world BBQ championships, so he knows a thing or two about smoked meat. He has introduced a variety of BBQ sauces under the Lillie's Q brand. He has sauces that represent all the various regional BBQ sauces, but the Carolina sauce representing Western Carolina is my favorite. It has a little sweet, a little ketchup, a little mustard, a little vinegar, a little spice and a little heat. It triggers all five of the taste buds regions; I love it.

Fav is what I'm in the mood for. So many good ones out there but I stick to ones with no HFCS.

Kinders lately, and my own mix is pretty good too.

Exactly. First thing I look for, no HFCS. Then I pour it over a couple slices of fatty brisket.:D

That is one reason I am not fond of Sweet Baby Ray's. HFCS is the first ingredient listed. (n)

The Lillie's Q Carolina sauce I listed as my current favorite lists the following ingredients::
Apple cider vinegar, apple juice, Worcestershire (distilled vinegar, molasses, water, salt, garlic powder, sugar, anchovies, tamarind, natural flavor), lime juice, mustard, tomato, brown sugar, cayenne, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and natural spices.

There is no HFCS listed. (y)

Most of te grocery store bbq sauces are hot garbage. They are built for shelf life and not quality of ingredients. However, as I always say, eat what you like. I would urge people to try more of the competition sauces that are born outta the bbq circuit. Waaaay better.

Toss up between original Sweet Baby Rays and original Jack Daniels. The Traeger Que is also very good.

The Lillie's Q sauces seem to be better than the run of the mill grocery store sauces. Remember that Chef Charlie has won BBQ championships and has operated the Lillie's Q restaurant since 2010. The sauces he sells in stores are the same sauces he serves in his restaurant.

I have tried the Carolina Gold (South Carolina style), Carolina (Western Carolina style), E.N.C (Eastern Carolina vinegar style), Smoky (Midwest style) and Ivory (Alabama white sauce style). I have not tried Hot Smoky or Hot Pepper Vinegar as I do not like a lot of heat.

Of these, I like the Carolina best as I believe if has the best balance of flavors. However, I do like the E.N.C sauce on pulled pork. For those used to sweet BBQ sauces, E.N.C. might not be your thing.
