Timberline XL
I spent $4K on an XL almost a year ago and have had nothing but problems which Traeger did nothing to resolve. The biggest problem was the temperature setting which is highly inaccurate. I had to use a Fireboard ambient temperature probe to confirm my suspicions (see photo). The smoker was off by more than 100 degrees if set for 300, Traeger would not accept any 3rd party ambient readings to prove their grill was malfunctioning. They had 2 service reps in The Phoenix area with 5 million residents who lived in very outlying areas. These techs refused to travel to my area which is right next to Phoenix so nobody would come out to verify the issue. I ended up shit-canning the smoker and bought a Yoder YS640s and had them haul the Traeger away. This Chinese made grill cuts every corner. I will never buy another Traeger.

I have two new generation Ironwoods a XL and a L.
Same problem, and customer service will not recognize the problem either.

I put them away for the winter and I am back to using my 885.

My L seems to not like running at a higher temp either, it keeps shutting down on high temp when it hits 560f. The temp is all over the place.

Very sad to hear. It seems that there was a better level of quality back three or four years ago when I got my Ironwood. Personally, after buying a Chevy Citation (You guys who are old enough know what I'm talking about ) I have resolved never to buy year one of anything so costly.

I won a Pro Series 34 back in 2019 and had nothing but issues with it keeping temp. After one year I gave it away and bought a Yoder 640S. I still use my Traeger Lil' Tex BBQ070 (American made) that is 18 years old and works like a charm.

One of my restaurant buddies uses his Yoder at least every other day and has zero issues.

I have been through the telephone service mill. The thing I learned, ask who services it if there are any problems. Telephone only, no more. This is why I think it is important to patronize stores that also have their own service department. Rather than buying from a big box store to save 20 dollars.

I've owned about 7 Traegers since 1995 virtually everyone is still working , I especially like my Timberland XL it truly is a Cadillac compared to other Pellet grills including Yoders . If i fault Traeger as a company its they should have a representative paying attention to this forum to help take care of problems to nip complaints in the bud, there are always 2 sides to every story including unresolved complaints. the beginning's of this pellet grill industry was started by the Traeger family in Mt Angle Oregon. 10 years later it was bought and shipped overseas by Mr. Football Terry Bradshaw the butt head. My Hopes are Trump puts a 200% import tax on them so manufacturing comes home to the USA where it belongs.

I went back to my 885 as my main grill, my meater in the oven says ambient is 20 degrees within setpoint, same as my 885. My XL, not a chance, I use it as a smoker and cook everything on a pan, I won’t cook on the grill with it.
