When I had my old Brinkman gasser, I had grill grates sitting on the stainless grate all the time. I had 4 of them.
When I got my new small KitchenAid to replace it, I noticed the Brinkman stainless grates underneath the aluminum GrillGrates was rusted to *&#%.
Could this be from galvanic reaction between aluminum and steel?
I don't know, but since I use my new KitchenAid gasser for pretty much searing, when I am done, I slide some cedar planks under the GrillGrates as an insulator.
So far, so good on my stainless grates.
