1st Traeger Tri Tip

Very interesting! Next time I go to Costco, I will try asking the butcher if I can buy other cuts as well that are not tenderized. I will also do the trick tip like a brisket on of these days. Meat Church recently put out a video on how to do that.

Our Costco had the Tri-Tips in cryovac bags 2/pack this past summer. These were not mechanically tenderized. But not at all their stores here. Was hit and miss. The ones at Costco had the fat caps on them.
I was able to get them from a local grocery store when they had them on special. They did keep some in their specialty counter, but they were way too expensive.
Seems all of their cryovac large portion meats at Costco are not tenderized. Maybe they would cut what you want from one of those

I am lucky, my local private butcher shop always has trip tip. They are un trimmed and they age them 30 days before they vacuum seal them. I follow a recipe Malcom Reed has. Basically season them with AP and I use a roast beef rub then onto the Traeger set at 225 until the tip gets to 125. I then reverse seer it (sometimes on Blackstone, sometimes on charcoal) for a few minutes per side. It has become my favorite cut of meat plus they are only $7.00 per pound...... Typically the ones they sell are around 4 lbs give or take.
